The unforgiving rays of the sun bore down on Roe. His feet dragged behind him as he made his way through town on a grocery run with his father. He lazily threw his head back while walking, staring at the big ball of fire in the sky, cursing it for making his life a living hell. Maybe it would've been more bearable if he liked the people.
Most of the people in this town were farmers who had tended their land for half a century. They were old. They carried old ideas and views of the world, too. Roe wiped a bead of sweat off his forehead and grumbled. He and his father stepped into the shop they went to for simple food. It belonged to an older woman who always judged Roe on his clothes, asking why he didn't wear things "like all the other young girls his age". He hated those questions. Several old people bugged him about it, why did they care so much? His father headed off to aisles in the store, Roe went to the section with frozen fish and grabbed a fistful of ice and pressed it against his head. He stayed there for several minutes, just cooling off. The old woman chuckled at the boy just standing there, head tipped back with fishy ice melting off his head and dripping to the floor. His father paid and they were off. Roe stomped on a crowd of ants conga-lining around dropped crackers. The cart ride back home was dreadful as always. The crop fields surrounded the road for miles and miles.
Roe hated Venterre. The infrequent trips to the coast where the hair was breezy and cooler were better, though. He disliked his town, he disliked the people. Even though most of his memories were from when he was young and easily irritated, he wouldn't go back.
When asked about his hometown Roe would much rather say the eastern coast of the Sea of Persephia. He liked it better there. The people were less bothersome. There were more people his age that he enjoyed talking to from time to time.Roe enjoyed being able to wake up in the morning and walk away from the vineyards to the beach or nearby woods. Although everything was going well and dandy in life, some things didn't improve. His father seemingly became more critical of Roe. More judging of him and the people around. After school let out, Roe would wander around beachfront shops or hide out in the woods, painting beneath a large willow tree to avoid the scornful eye of his father. Maybe someday he would be free of the feeling of scrutiny from those around him.

Normal hood goes over neck but I wnated to ljke have something visibly close to his neck because irl me hates stuff close to my neck and I am fiddly with like uhhh collars or necklines of shirts or whatervr its called so its like yeag uncomfortable thing he has to wear
Roeme (roe gnome) is to the side cuz those hoods have fuckass uh hoods yep and like??? I guess roe tucks it somewhere cuz that’s a thing
Also I guess it would be like houppelande type thing but just with a hood attached but also designed to be flipped inside out no idea

I think his first job would be at his aunts shops like selling stuff no tarot yet, then like to help with how his magic works he'd become an apprentice to a craftsman then he'd get tired, want something more lowkey compared to that and work at the shop again or some bookstore, i like the idea of him becoming a farrier for a while cuz i mean he had his own horse that he rode all the way to Vesuvia so he’d have to know how to care for horses and so he'd like have some experience relating to that job but also cuz i think it would be cool if he could make the tools with his magic 🤷♂️
Ngl i've been thinking about this for a while, but for him to land a job at the palace he'd like have to have some experience or at least like idk something in relation that could be used for finding the cure for the plague no ideaaaaaa im scared of this being unrealistic but yeah I think this is true for at least before the plague maybe he like finds his thing after the events of the route

The morning fog covered the streets of Vesuvia in the early morning. Roe woke up early in the morning to drop by Selasi’s bakery to get a fresh loaf of pumpkin bread to eat for breakfast. Roe lazily strode the streets back to the shop, bread in hand. As the man turned the corner, a little white sheep with ears that stood straight up on its head greeted him. Or rather ran right into him. Now on the ground, Roe sat puzzled.
“Why is there a sheep right in the middle of a city?”
He looked in the direction where the sheep was coming from and saw a woman running towards him. She had long black braided hair and a purple dress with constellations embroidered. He noticed a deep wood staff in her hand, a shepherd. Roe then quickly understood why there was a sheep in the city, he sprung up and quickly ran after the lamb.
After several blocks Roe finally caught up to the tiny creature, successfully catching it but falling down in the process. Panting, he saw the woman was following him and was catching her breath near him. She thanked him profusely and offered a hand.
The two walked back to the woman's farm, lamb in Roe's arms.
After some of awkward silence they introduced themselves to each other.
“Roe Castletov, you?”
“Koji Komat.”
Roe awkwardly shifted the lamb so he could shake her hand, she laughed and shook it.
