ABOUT THE MAYFAIRE RESIDENT
Alexander Ripley, a 51 year native to Holdenville, was born the only child to a single mother in 1968. The two lived in a comfortably sized home with Ripley’s religious grandparents (who didn’t really want much to do with the boy, but provided for him nonetheless).
Alex was a habitual troublemaker in his teen and young adult years. When he wasn’t getting detention, he was getting suspended; when he wasn’t attending class or looking for a job, he was getting into trouble with the police. His grandparents kicked him out at age seventeen and made his mother choose between her son or a stable living environment. His mother did not hesitate to choose him.
While serving a two year sentence in state prison for drug possession, Alex received the news of his mother’s unexpected death - she had been involved in a fatal car accident. It took the aftermath of that, and getting clean, for him to finally turn his life around. He found therapy through art, which he had once used to deface properties through graffiti. He went on to pursue art as a career; first through school, and eventually finding a job as a high school art teacher.
Two months ago, Alex woke up to an unexpected knock at his door: a 27 year old daughter that he didn’t even know existed. It had been a drunken hookup during his more reckless years at a house party in Atlanta. Her mother, like his own, had passed away quite unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm while the girl was away at college. She had no other family apart from him, and had packed up everything from her college town of Cincinnati to start anew and get to know her father. Now, Alex is struggling to figure out what it means to be a father - after having lived as a bachelor for the better part of his life - but he’s determined to get it right.
