           he’s doing his best to stay quiet  ;  by now  ,  they were used to leaving each other at unfortunate hours  ,  and he tried to lessen the blow by not waking her up  .      as much as he loved being with her  ,  they had stayed  up far too late the night before  ;  in his defense  ,  he wasn’t supposed to be working today  .      a combination of exhaustion and the dark  insures his stealth is decreased  --  in searching for his go-bag  ,  he trips over it instead  .    he isn’t even sure if lexie is awake when he apologizes  .      “ sorry  --  sorry  ,  i just needed  --  the bag  .  ”

            his hair is a mess, a mark of his disheveled state ; he’d been woken up at four in the morning to be told that the team had to get o the jet within the hour. a rush to get ready had woken up lexie, and despite his pleas for her to get some REST before her shift, the two of them were standing in her kitchen. one hand is being used to hold his coffee, but he reaches out with the other to gently stroke her hair.             “ it’ll be alright. ” he isn’t used to having someone on the outside worry about him ; of course the team does, but besides them, there’d never been anyone calling just to check in or stopping by his apartment to make sure everything’s alright. “ it should be pretty straightforward. make sure you get some sleep, okay ? i don’t want to find out my girlfriend passed out from exhaustion. ”
