✅ Keep the mic 3–5 cm (1–2 inches) from your mouth for clear, strong audio. ✅ Avoid covering the mic head with your hand — that’s where the sound is captured. ✅ Hold the mic steady – don’t shake or swing it while speaking. It distracts the audience and affects sound quality. ✅ For formal events, use both hands (one to hold, the other supporting underneath) to create a polished and respectful look.

The First Minute Terror Every public speaker including an emcee experiences one big stage freight I call The First Minute Terror Your mind can be a cold-blooded murderer of enthusiasm, optimism and excitement especially when you begin thinking many negative things that might happen during your performance. Tip: I put the most effort on my first minute of every gig especially hard practicing my intro. I practice the most and the hardest to succeed my first encounter with audience. Not just because it grabs the audience and sets the tone, but it shows having the beginning down cold can help with jitters. Anxiety levels drop after a few minutes so having the intro well-rehearsed gets you through the toughest part of the talk. Work especially hard on your introduction. Research has shown that a speaker’s anxiety level begins to drop significantly after the first 30 to 60 seconds of a presentation. Once you get through the introduction, you should find smoother sailing the rest of the way. I hope this would be useful for you.
