You Make Sense of the Devil

The hand of the watch stuttered as it ticked forward. Of course it did. The cheap, quartz-driven mechanism wasn’t up to the degree of atomic precision the Mission deserved. The watches had been bought in bulk from overseas two corporate shell-games ago. Untraceable, carrying no zombie-link to snitch on them and expose their location. There would be time for that later. Much later. He wondered if he would be there to witness it. A selfish wish.
“Head down, shoulders up. Don’t fidget. Don’t draw attention. You’re no-one. You are everyone. You’re the City. You belong where they don’t.”
The gun in his hand is heavy. As carefully coated in anonymity as the rest of him, it was small, disposable. Heavy. As the seconds tick the implications piled up, a leaded drape of doubts. Weakness. Too late now.
The stroke of noon echoed in tandem with the crack of his gun. One bullet. One dead.
Make them feel it.
We’re here.

“Yes. Are you sure?”
Hotch hears the thin electronic voice through the government-approved landline. But he’s really listening to his own voice, saying these same words across a gulf of years. The desk under his fingers feels like bone instead of polished wood. Vertebrae doused with arterial bleed, desperation and the screaming din of smoke in air.
“We’re on our way.”
Compartmentalizing. Part of himself takes notes, grabs his go bag from its transient home beneath his desk. The mountain of paperwork will await another night, to be brought home while Jack sleeps. While Jack talks about his day at school and of all the bright things out in his world, where sometimes his Dad can follow but never, quite, Hotch.
Phone trees ring into the night, calling back the team, to rip them from the shreds of their lives. again. Hotch walks down to the file storage. There was one more thing he needed before the flight.
The other parts of Aaron Hotchner walk along the sour-coffee and ink ghost of Jason Gideon, and the raw burnt edges of Elle’s memory, along with all those he’d lost to this unit before. All those who got away.

If anyone read the post about M*A*S*H AUs I made a while ago, you'll realise that I'm a sucker for Alternate Universes, fusions and shared universes. The M*A*S*H crew seem to lend themselves perfectly for this kind of stories, and the show's setting is perfect to put other characters in.
That said, I put a limit on myself regarding what universes I could fuse. From the start, I drew the line on, among others, Lord of the Rings (and believe me, I tried to make an AU but it ended being bland nonsense), Star Wars (because I don't know enough of it like to make something accurate) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (because the stories within it were too specific like to make a believable fusion).
That is, until now. Because, I wonder:
What if Hawkeye Pierce became a Master of the Mystic Arts like Doctor Strange?
So, here we go:
Doctor Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce is a brilliant surgeon. Jockey, sardonic and a bit of a braggart, his skill is studied by medicine students, and he is admired by his contemporaries, even to the point of jealosy and rivalry.
Alongside him in the Metro-General Hospital in New York work other talented doctors, like his friend John "Trapper" McIntyre and his sort-of-frenemy Margaret Houlihan. There's also that snobby new doctor from Boston, Charles Emerson Winchester (the Third), who has inexplicably decided to pick a bone with Doctor Pierce and is constantly competing to see who's a better surgeon.
Everything was perfect in Hawkeye's life and he couldn't ask for more.
That is, until he has a car accident that severs the nerves of his hands irreparably. Given that most of a surgeon's performance depends on his hands, he sees it as the end of his career. Without telling anyone except his father, he moves back to his home town of Crabapple Cove, Maine, and decides to help his dad, who's also a doctor, with his practice.
But being a town doctor is not even remotely like being a big city surgeon and he quickly starts to find ways to 'fix' his hands so he can go back to his old work. In his quest, he alienates his father, who tries to convince him that he can still be useful without being a surgeon, and spends almost all of his money in experimental treatments that fail one after the other. His dad contacts his friends (who had no idea where the hell he was, btw), who go to Crabapple Cove to try and get him to reason. Hawkeye ends up fighting big time with Trapper, who quickly gets tired of his antics. When Margaret comes to visit, he feels it's just out of pity and doesn't give her the time of day. Margaret, hurt but angry, decides he needs to humble down and refuses to visit him again.
Hawkeye keeps investigating. Eventually, he finds out about BJ Hunnicutt, a doctor from San Francisco who, having been paraplegic, regained the use of his legs through mysterious ways. After contacting him, BJ tells Hawkeye of a place in Katmandu called Kamar-Taj, where they taught him to use mysticism to make his legs work again. Doctor Pierce decides to use the money he has left to travel to Nepal and receive this treatment. Upon arriving there, he encounters a woman calling herself the Ancient One, who quickly makes him see that this is way more than just alternative medicine.
From there the story goes pretty much the same way the movie does. Hawkeye, after some initial problems, learns pretty quickly and starts to uncover some secrets about the Ancient One and the Masters of the Mystic Arts at large. He is thrusted into more specialized training, the Ancient One having seen potential in him. He tries to contact Trapper and Margaret, but none of them answer. Eventually, the only one he consistently shares his life with outside Kamar-Taj ends up being his dad (a lot of Dear Dad emails peppered throughout the story).
He gets into a fight with Kaecilius, a sorcerer that has channeled the power of Dormammu, a dark higher-dimensional being who inhabits the Dark Dimension and has promised him eternal life in return for the Earth realm. The fight ends pretty badly for Hawkeye, who barely manages to open a portal to the Metro-General Hospital so he can get treatment for his wounds. Trapper and Margaret discover him and get him into surgery, but find out Hawkeye is in something way bigger and stranger than they thought. After they operate on him (while Hawkeye had astral-projected himself out of his body to fight one of Kaecilius' followers), he more or less explains everything, and they more or less believe him. Pierce asks what has been going on, given neither of them wanted to answer his emails. They tell him nothing much, except that they started dating each other. Hawkeye is shocked, but not as shocked as his friends are when they see him open a portal to who knows where and dissapear again.
"I'm not Mister Pierce, I'm not Master Pierce, I'm Doctor Pierce! Ok?!".
After facing off agains Kaecilius again, the Ancient One is badly injured. Hawkeye gets her into surgery. At first, he wants to perform it himself after so long, but realises his hands are unstable and decides Charles is better suited. For once, the blueblooded doctor offers no snotty remark and gets to work.
Also, every time he comes back to life to fight Dormammu he manages to come up with an increasingly cheesy one-liner, until Dormammu agrees to leave Earth alone if only to not hear those terrible jokes anymore.
(Here you go, @onekisstotakewithme! I know I'm not as good as AUs as you are, but I hope you like it. If anyone sees any innaccuracies with the movie, please give me a shout and I'll correct it).
loki's kitty cat daemon! yes!
I remember what this was in reference to but also re-reading it made me have a Thought and the Thought was this: what if Asgardians have to EARN the right to manifest their soul in the same way that Midgardians take for granted? Like you have to go on a big quest and everything in order to receive the right to ‘drink of the spring’ or ‘cast yourself into the fire’ or whatever ceremonial thingamajig they gotta go through to get their daemons.
ANYWAYS WHAT IF Thor goes on his Big Journey and his daemon manifests as a particularly large and hard-headed goatlike creature and everyone is all oohing and aahing over the horns. Meanwhile Loki, as the younger brother, now gets to go on HIS Big Journey but everyone is all *rolls eyes* and “Get a load of this guy” and “Loki, we already KNOW what YOUR soul is, you’re a snake from the inside out” and it’s not quite meant as an insult but it’s also not NOT an insult, you feel?
LOKI feels. Loki grits his teeth and ignores the haters and he goes on his Big Quest thing and…his daemon is an adorable cat creature. It has massive eyes and adorable likkle toe beans and delicately pointed fangs and everyone is AGOG and AGHAST and HAVE WE MISJUDGED YOU THIS WHOLE TIME?
Of course, what nobody realizes (and Loki never divulges) is that his adorable likkle daemon is venomous as all get-out. She grows into her adorable paws and slinks around after Loki with luminous green-gold eyes and her voice is softer than the prince’s, but no less sharp. The court, as whole, is kinder to the prince in the reveal of his soul’s shape, and Odin Takes Note of his elder son’s hard-headed soul and his younger son’s more subtle nature and the coronation of Thor Odinson gets put off for a century or five and the Sons of Odin are instead sent out into the Galaxy on a mission to build treaties.
Three planets in, they have an altercation with the Ravagers, meet Peter Quill and his daemon, Yagota, and the rest - as they say - is history, mystery, legend, and myth (kind of like the tale of Kevin Bacon).

The team settles on the plane and even the tight quarters cannot mask how few they are. They’ve been whittled down to a functional core, but when it’s just them the masks slip. Reid still carries his sadness along with his chess board and all of Garcia’s extravagance in pink cannot hide that she is missing her heart.
“What’s so urgent that it couldn’t wait until the morning briefing?” Rossi asks. There’s no bite in the words and he leaves plenty of space for friendly ribbing about being interrupted mid-cookery or other activities.
Hotch doesn’t take the bait.
“New York Metro police has a string of daytime murders they want us to look into. 22 caliber bullets. On the stroke of noon.”
Reid sits up. “Did they find the tarot card?”
Somewhere in that big brain of his, those two pieces of information were enough to bring back the case, complete with notes, observations, profiles and the things they withheld from the press. Things it took four bodies for the local LEOs to string together.
“They did, but it seems to be a different card. No one made the connection until tonight. The New York field office called me as soon as Metro contacted them. DHS is also inbound.”
“That’s a whole lot of three letter acronyms throwing weight around.”
“No kidding.” Hotch pulls the handful of manilla folder from his bag. He hands out the crisp new copies, but keeps the slightly yellowed original from 2008. “Rossi, I want you at Federal Plaza. We need to make sure information gets shared. We won’t have time for glory hounding.”
“Shouldn’t you be the one liaising?”
“I—” Hotch stops, reflexively touches his left ear. It’s still tender in the pressurized cabin. “I would rather not,” he says at last.
“Understood.” Rossi nods in reassurance. “I’ll take Reid with me.”

Im so eager to find out what you thought about venom because im dreaming about you writing a darcy fic for the movie that most recently just wrecked me rip
I have been mentally writing and rewriting my Reaction Post since about thirty seconds after the credits rolled but I will tell you right now that after seeing the film there are three (3) fic plot ideas that spring immediately to mind:
1. That one fic where Dan calls his baby sister, drunk off his gourd, and the conversation starts with: “Hey, remember that time you got really drunk and broke eight NDAs to tell me the True Story of why you left grad school? Well, grab a bottle because it’s time to repay the favor...”
2. That one fic where the adorable lady scientist SURVIVES the symbiote, bonds with it (because it is also a scientist and it wants to study hoomans), and somehow finds her way into the Darcy Science Family.
3. That one fic where Dan Lewis and Darcy Lewis swap realities from word “Go” which means we go hard with Anne/Darcy and probable eventual Anne/Darcy/Eddie/Venom and in the other universe Jane husbands the hell out of Dan sometime because he is AMAZING and Jane knows a good thing when she sees one (possibly ends in Dan/Jane/Thor/Valkyrie because I ship Dan with complicated situations).

In a fusion between the MCU and Avatar, the Last Airbender, obviously Aang would be Captain America, frozen for years, but
Would that make Kuzon Bucky?
