to somebody on the outside, it might seem strange that sage has known about an estranged half-sister since she was eight years old ( nearly fourteen years ) and never done anything about it in the way of trying to meet her. marnie hadn’t been at the funeral back then, and aside from that, there’s never really been an instance where they’d been forced together. since then, sage has always assumed the other girl wants nothing to do with her, and the feeling is mutual. why should she want to meet her? their father had been the bane of sage’s existence, she’d hated him with every fiber of her being, and anything that needlessly reminds her of him is something she’s going to avoid at all costs. ( it’s occurred to her once or twice that the reason marnie has no interest in her, either, is likely that she hates him as well, and that’s kind of interesting, but not enough so to make sage try to reach out. )
she knows what marnie looks like, though. she has looked her up, and that wasn’t difficult. so when she spots her at a bar, sage knows instantly who it is. there’s really no second-guessing it, and maybe a part of that is the fact that they literally share dna. she doesn’t know. what she does know is that now that they’re in the same room, she simply can’t help going over there and indulging her curiosity. her heart is slamming madly against her rib cage and she can’t quite believe this is happening, something that’s been building up for fourteen fucking years. “hey!” she makes herself heard over the music, heedless of the people marnie had been talking to. sage’s focus is all on her half-sister. she’s stunning, annoyingly enough. “you’re marnie,” she says, and it isn’t a question. she pauses a second, trying to see whether or not marnie will realize who she is. “i’m sage. morrissey.” another beat, and finally she adds, “i’m your sister.”
