Lisa Russell is an Emmy-award winning documentary filmmaker and new media producer based in Brooklyn, NY. Together with Maya Azcena, she developed www.MDGFive.com, an interactive website that unites artists & activists around maternal health. We interviewed her while she is working on her first short narrative film based on the real life story of two indigenous girls in the highlands of Guatemala who challenged their elected officials to provide more services to adolescents in their community. 3/8/2012 - Week 22

Went to school today because Lisa had to go to some events for International Women's Day. Which by the way, happy International Women's Day!

It was rather difficult day. Technical difficulties on both sides. There were issues getting the new content uploaded on MDGFive's website. The computers at school were rather slow (some did not even let me log in). So pretty much I just posted new twitter statuses to promote some very good songs about maternal health and sent direct messages.

I don't know why technology likes to screw me over on Thursday. Speaking of which, my laptop has a problem with its TV chord thingamabober. I asked a classmate of mine who interns with a computer specialist to see if he could fix it. Costs $400. Although I'm ready to throw my laptop against a wall because I can only work when the screen is at a 45 degree angle, I need it to last another three months.

Wow... Just counted the remaining days of internship. There are only 14 more weeks until Senior Experience is over.

3/1/2012 - Week 21

Prepping everything for International Women's Day. Got to help Lisa plan out ways to promote the Remix for Maternal health and also create a tumblr for MDGFive.com.

The weather was kind of meh, so I did not go out and practice shooting with the T2i. But Lisa did give me a very interesting project to do for the next time I meet her. I need to film/take stills that reflect the gentrification of Brooklyn. Difficult? Most likely. Stimulating? Definitely.

I also got to meet Lisa' new roomate. Her name is Sylvia de Fanti. She is this really big Italian actress who wants to move her career to the States. She's super nice, and she's willing to take me under her wing when Lisa's busy to learn more about the world of theater. She is even working on this production that combines film-making with this play. More about that to come later.
