Ecstasy Addiction Treatment Centre
MDMA or ecstasy users may encounter serious addiction issues similar to those experienced by methamphetamine and cocaine users.
However, persistent use can have serious negative effects, including addiction. There is a common misconception that weed is non-addictive. While it is not as addictive as other substances such as heroin or cocaine, it is absolutely possible to develop a dependence.
Our drug rehab centres are a safe and effective way to get help in coping with your addiction and concurrent mental health problems. At Trafalgar, every client receives a personalized and effective Ecstacy addiction treatment program at our addiction treatment centres in Ontario.
Effects of MDMA/Ecstasy
MDMA users experience a period of euphoria that may last for up to 6 hours after taking MDMA. Not all users experience pleasurable effects, some may experience anxiety, depression and in some rare cases loss of consciousness. Continuous consumption of MDMA will also lead to sleep deprivation. After-effects of MDMA wear off, people usually experience pain in muscles, severe tiredness, depression and/or anxiety.
In addition to its mentally rewarding effects, MDMA’s psychological effects can include confusion, depression, sleep problems, anxiety, and paranoia, both short-term and long-term, after taking the drug. Physical effects can include muscle tension, involuntary teeth clenching and grinding, intense nausea, blurred vision, faintness, and chills or cold sweats.
MDMA/Ecstasy Addiction Symptoms
Symptoms such as increases in heart rate and blood pressure have led to reports of MDMA-related fatalities at music festivals and raves with more frequency in recent years. The stimulant effects of the drug can lead to dehydration, hyperthermia, and heart or kidney failure. MDMA use damages neurons associated with brain serotonin both during and after use. Long-term side effects also include memory loss and brain damage.
MDMA/Ecstasy Addiction Treatment
Despite being a difficult drug to treat for addiction, much like methamphetamine, research shows the most effective treatment for MDMA addiction and abuse is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Drug abuse recovery support groups may also be effective in supporting and reaching long-term, drug-free recovery goals. There are currently no pharmacological treatments for dependence on MDMA, but we at Trafalgar Addiction Treatment Centres use the cutting edge of therapeutic treatment options to offer you the psychological and addiction recovery support you need to achieve a clean lifestyle.
