percy in the perceval role failing to ask cass what’s up is peak de rolo sibling content and I am wholeheartedly on board (I also love him in the role of the reverse knight whose cycle begins in the forest rather than the castle, and who learned silence rather than curiosity. though there’s some great potential for vex as the Outsider who comes to court to prove herself, is laughed out, and becomes knightly from there. the scene where the court meets her out in the woods is a truly beautiful comeuppance, especially for vex.)

there are a lot of different versions of Percival's story (Peredur is the Welsh version). It could be he wanted to be Percy because it has connotations of being upper class/weak now

yeah you’re right I gotta stop reading de Troyes as the definitive Perceval cause there are like, half a dozen iterations during the middle ages alone.

and, honestly, upon reflection, naming a character desperate to be a better person but convinced he’s a coward after the knight who begins with nothing, no family or resources or understanding of the laws of chivalry, makes perfect sense. it’s a story of becoming the idealized version of yourself.
