P&G Seeks to Sell Concierge Health-Care Operator

Procter & Gamble Co. is seeking to sell MDVIP, a personalized health-care operator catering to the wealthy, in what would be the latest divestment by a consumer goods and health-care company, people familiar with the situation said.

P&G has mandated investment bank Piper Jaffray & Co. as its adviser on the sale, one person said.

Every indication is that the future looks bright for those doctors considering a career in cash-only or retainer-style, concierge medicine.

Large groups like MedLion, MDVIP, Qliance and One Medical are building and scaling successful medical practices across the country.

Cambia Health (a Blue Shield company), Google Ventures, Proctor and Gamble, Benchmark Capital, DAG Ventures, Oak Investment Partners, Maverick Capital and others are starting to note trends and jump into the market with capital.

"What that means for independent physicians choosing to enter the concierge medicine market is that they will have to have the chops to compete with the big guys...sort of like Cunningham Hardware (referring to the 70s television show "Happy Days") competing with Home Depot and Lowe's and Tru Value or Ace Hardware" says leading concierge medical practice consultant and author, Maria Todd.

Procter and Gamble bought MDVIP, a concierge medicine fraternity

P&G are the people behind well-known brand names such as Vicks medicine, Crest, Bounty, Braun, Duracell, Gain, Gillette, Ivory, Pantene, Olay, Oral-B, Pampers, Pringles, and Tide. They've just recently acquired another brand, MDVIP.

MDVIP is a national network of docs who practice concierge medicine under it's brand. They help established physicians convert their traditional practice into a concierge practice, taking care of all the legal, marketing, paperwork, etc. For this, they take 1/3 of the fee that is charged to patients.

P&G previously owned a minority stake in the company. Now, they have bought the entire company with plans to expand it's database of physicians.

P&G has a pretty extensive list of successful brands. No doubt, MDVIP will be too, now.
