#Meanwhile17: hosting the panels at this year’s @meanwhilecgc was an amazing experience, with some cracking guests who really knew their stuff - I had so many highlights but I think my favourite was having @alison.sampson, who maybe a mainstream attendee wasn’t too familiar with and therefore for her Q&A Panel, only attracted three or four up the stairs. So what did we do? We just sat in the audience seats, gathered around, and shot the shit for forty mins! And as people wandered upstairs, we invited them in to take a pew in this very informal chat and talked about process, about horror in comics, about what it is to scare people in 2017... it was such a loose, relaxed BLAST, ended up with ten or so people (frankly, they were young ‘uns, which was encouraging). My favourite moment was when Alison referenced one of my fav authors as a kid - Frank Herbert - to talk about that line between being unsettled by your surroundings and drifting into a possible dream-nightmare-scape, where you can’t tell what’s real and what’s not. Wonderful, just wonderful.
