In Response to the Art Assignment ‘Measuring Histories’ by Sonya Clark.
In August 2015 I moved abroad for a period of 10 months. Now that these 10 months are almost over, all the clothes I took with me -my ever favourite ones- begin to dissolve. At first, I was very sad when noticing another scoop, another loosened seam, but now I think there is something beautiful inherent. Not just the somehow aesthetic structure they show on closer inspection, but also how perfectly they reveal the turbulent, the exciting, the fun, the weak and hard times I had during the last year. I think I never made so many diverse experiences in such a short time, but at the same moment I can really feel how much I grew.
As soon as I’m back home, I will throw all of them away. And with it, finalize this special period of my life, keeping the memories in my mind, but being open to the future, with new clothes, ready to collect new marks of my personal history.
