Idk why this is but fanfic davekat everyone’s fine with being fluffy and stable with each other but they dont like meat davekat which is basically the same thing??

I just think we should see meat davekat as like an extension of what they had post-retcon, except they had more time to talk about things off camera. Candy davekat gives us a pretty good example of what kind of struggles meat davekat could have had before they went off chasing dirk and company, but rehashing it would have been a chore to read.

I guess its easy to forget that the candy and meat timelines are direct parallels to each other that influence each other in real time and as such reflect certain characteristics back to back. Hell, i was looking at meat jade rehashing the same argument she had in candy, so its not much of a stretch?

And another thing, the scene in hs^2 where davekat took over most of the arc is because they were arguing about karkat’s mortality, which is a pretty heavy thing? Also how dare you all forget karkat + roxy and dave + kanaya interactions. They all has equal screentime! Roxy is just unwilling to chat about mostly anything which, honestly, fair, amd kanaya has expressed that she mostly thinks about rose. Idk i feel like its the fandom focusing unecessarily on how “good” davekat had it when in the candy timeline davekat literally broke off and we got a dave who just went and left his wife and lovelife and friends behind which, what the fuck.

Think of meat and candy as a balance!! Is my point. Im not saying its flawless or whatever (trust me i have a lot of complaints about it) but i also want to think about its good points. While im reading the epilogues its also a pretty important reminder for me to read it as the authors intend it to become.

Last reminder that hs2 isnt fucking finished, let them flesh out the story first and THEN judge it. Criticisms are valid (yes the davekat issue falls under this) but also let them breathe. Its to my understanding that they’re finishing it all privately first before publishing it? Let them do that.
