Keeping Up With The Sex Scandals
Whenever someone hears the phrase ‘sex scandal,’ one of the first people that comes to mind is Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was able to eventually save face, and many even joke about his affair in the oval office, unfortunately Monica’s reputation has been completely destroyed. The differences between how we view sex scandals committed by men v.s women obviously varies, but it gets interesting when you compare between politicians and celebrities.
For politicians, men are slandered endlessly until the next one comes along, or they resign; and sometimes the women (or men in some cases) involved are unable to recover. On the opposite hand, for celebrities it is women who have lost careers and despite being accomplished and successful in their careers, are only being remembered for their iCloud hack
1.) The Bill Clinton Song- Matt Beat, 2013
Always one for politics, never seemed to escape scandals
Had many accomplishments, but all they remember was scandal
Bill Clinton, born and raised in Arkansas
Never know his real papa/ long planned to go into law
Avoided the draft into Vietnam, went to Georgetown, Yale Oxford
Got with Hillary Rodham, It didn’t take long before his first campaign
Attorney general, soon youngest governor
Always one for politics, never seemed to escape scandals
‘Had many accomplishments, but all they remember was scandal
President, 2nd youngest elected and he quickly would be tested
With violence near Waco and the world trade center
signed a law that made it harder to get guns, the FMLA and NAFTA Favored collectivism
Extramarital affairs, accusations abounded: Whitewater, Travel gate, File gate, Zippergate and Vince Foster’s death
Second president impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice
personal life got in his way but people would forgive
Always one for politics, never seemed to escape scandals
Had many accomplishments, but all they remember was scandal
-Like the song states, Bill Clinton had so many accomplishments from being the second youngest president, and tried to be a great President, however the scandal was too much and now he is remembered for the infamous dress stains..
2.) Dusty Springfield - Scandal, 1989
Mandy's in the papers 'cause she tried to go to Spain
She'll soon be in the dock and in the papers once again
Vicki's got her story about the mirror and the cane
It may be false, it may be true but nothing has been proved
Stephen's in his dressing-gown now, breakfasting alone
Too sick to eat, he's on his feet and to the telephone
The police inspector soothes him with his sympathetic tone
It may be false, it may be true but nothing has been proved
In the house a resignation, guilty faces, every one
Christine's fallen out with Lucky, Johnny's got a gun
'Please please me' 's number one
It's a scandal, it's a scandal, such a scandal
Now, Stephen's in the dock for spending money that was earned
By Christine and the prosecution says that money burned
A hole in Stephen's pocket, for expensive sins he yearned
It may be false, it may be true but nothing has been proved
In the news the suicide note, in the court an empty space
Even Mandy's looking worried, Christine's pale and drawn
'Please please me' 's number one
It's a scandal, it's a scandal, such a scandal
Last night he wrote these words to his friend
'Sorry about the mess, I'm guilty 'til proved innocent
In the public eye and press'
The funeral's very quiet because all his friends have fled
They may be false, they may be true, they've all got better things to do
They may be false, they may be true but nothing has been proved
Nothing, nothing has been proved
Oh, nothing, nothing
Oh, nothing, nothing
Oh, nothing, nothing
Oh, nothing
-Dusty Springfield is singing about, well obviously a sex scandal. The person in the song is in the middle of having his reputation on the line and speaking about he’s guilty until proven innocent, a play on the judicial phrase ‘innocent until proven guilty’
3.) The Police- Don’t Stand So Close To Me, 1980
Young teacher, the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking, she's so close now
This girl is half his age
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabakov
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
-This song by The Police is about a young schoolgirl who has a crush on her teacher, that leads to an affair that is eventually discovered, and although it was written in the 80′s we continued to have sex scandals committed by both male and female teachers involving their students; Debra Lafave for example.
4.) Celebrity Sex Scandal- In Excess, 2013
Don’t be caught suspended there gripping yourself
You must take precaution for potential accidents
Keep your chair close and check the safety harness
Never put on a rubber mask and let the camera roll
Never try it
Just don’t try it
Never try it
No….
(Asphyxiophilia will flood your brain with dopamine)
Don’t ya know
Asphyxiophilia
Don’t ya know
It will kill ya
Leave all your problems dead hanging naked
Don’t embarrass mom and dad, they’ll claim a suicide
Bowling surfing or skateboarding could be so much more fun
All it takes is one slip and you’re sure to not wake up
It couldn’t be worth the risk unless you can’t get laid
Never try it
Just don’t try it
Never try it
Don’t…
(Asphyxiophilia will flood your brain with dopamine)
Don’t ya know
Asphyxaphilia
Don’t ya know
It will kill ya
Leave all your problems dead hanging naked
Learn from the mistakes of David Carradine and Micheal Hutchence
Strangulation equals masturbation
Just breathe, let the oxygen reach your brain
Just breathe, and then come back again
-This song is about auto-erotic asphyxiation, or the act of choking oneself during sex or masturbation and references David Carradine and Micheal Hutchence. David Carradine is best known for playing the part of Bill in Kill Bill, however it seems many will only remember him for the way he died. As for Micheal Hutchence, he was the leader singer of INXS and was also found dead in a hotel room with a belt tied around his neck fastened to the door, yet despite fan’s and his close friends claiming it was an accident his death was ruled a suicide along with an overdose.
5.) Hard Out Here- Lily Allen 2013
I Suppose I should tell you what this bitch is thinking
You'll find me in the studio and not in the kitchen
I won't be bragging 'bout my cars or talking 'bout my chains
Don't need to shake my ass for you 'cause I've got a brain
If I told you 'bout my sex life, you'd call me a slut
When boys be talking about their bitches, no one's making a fuss
There's a glass ceiling to break, uh-huh, there's money to make
And now it's time to speed it up 'cause I can't move at this pace
[Bridge:]
Sometimes it's hard to find the words to say
I'll go ahead and say them anyway
Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits
[Chorus:]
It's hard, it's hard, it's hard out here for a bitch
It's hard for a bitch (for a bitch) for a bitch,
It's hard
It's hard out here for a bitch
It's hard for a bitch (for a bitch) for a bitch,
It's hard
It's hard out here
If you're not a size six, then you're not good looking
Well, you better be rich, or be real good at cooking
You should probably lose some weight 'cause we can't see your bones
You should probably fix your face or you'll end up on your own
Don't you want to have somebody who objectifies you?
Have you thought about your butt? Who's gonna tear it in two?
We've never had it so good, uh-huh, we're out of the woods
And if you can't detect the sarcasm, you've misunderstood
[Bridge]
[Chorus]
A bitch, a bitch, a bitch, bitch, bitch [4x]
Inequality promises that it's here to stay
Always trust the injustice 'cause it's not going away
Inequality promises that it's here to stay
Always trust the injustice 'cause it's not going away
[Bridge]
[Chorus 2x]
Bitch
-This song by Lily Allen talks about how women are objectified, and the differences between how men and women are treated sexually. For example men can brag about their sex lives but when women do, they are seen as a ‘slut.’ She also mentions how much pressure women have to stay attractive, or else they ‘better be rich or good at cooking’ otherwise no one will want them, whereas men aren’t portrayed as having
A general theme with these songs is that while yes sex scandals can ruin many careers from the President’s to a teacher, to actors and musicians, many will see a male politician as guilty as soon as it is reported, even before being found actually guilty and will never forget it. For women, specifically celebrities, there is an even added pressure to be both attractive, yet ‘pure’ otherwise they will be painted as slut or a bitch.
