West End Girl by Lily Allen

Having listened to Lily Allen's new album, it is very apparent to me that her ex-husband never really knew her at all. I think this is apparent to her too and it's crushingly sad.
I have been a fan of hers for nearly 20 years. One thing about Lily Allen is that she's actually quite mean (positive, complimentary). That's the thing that makes her songs clever and fun and engaging - they're always much meaner than her sweet voice would lead you to believe.
Her ex thought he could do typical shitty male partner things to LILY ALLEN and not be lambasted for it? The woman who wrote a song eviscerating her younger brother for being a college kid smoking weed? The woman who wrote a song making fun of her grandmother? The woman whose arguably biggest hit is called Fuck You? The woman who had a huge hit mocking the over consumption culture of the early 2000s? The one who wrote a song mocking a two-pump chump? And this isn't even getting to Smile! Or LDN! Or Knock Em Out!!
Sir you are an idiot. You are a moron. You arguably deserve much meaner songs about you for failing to know a woman THAT YOU MARRIED so thoroughly.
I do think she held back. I do think she could have been meaner. The deep sadness expressed in Dallas Major and the self awareness of "I used to be quite famous but that was way back in the day" "I'm very nearly 40, I'm almost 5'2" "I'm a mum to teenage children does that sound like fun to you?" tells me that.
How delusional can you be to think that you're gonna get away with any of this??
