This graph is different from the others as on this question I allowed them to choose more than one option, hence why there just isn't just 10 answers.
Analysis of Pirates of the Caribbean 4 trailer
This film is of the fantasy adventure genre. There are many things in the trailer that show this.
Codes & conventions
All of the landscapes and shots of the sea and cliffs would be thought of as a code and convention of the trailer as the audience gets a sense of adventure.
Most of the trailer is scenic shots, all of the places the characters go on their adventure in this film, and shots showing the ships in which the characters spend most of their time travelling on. They are all signs that create meaning of adventure to the audience.
The main characters must be shown as a convention of the film so that the audience can connect to the and get to know them, this makes the audience feel more involved in the films as they feel like they know the characters.
Seeing the Disney symbol is a convention because obviously you see it and you instantly get high expectations because Disney is such a popular film company. Another thing is that all of the bad guys are wearing dark colours, with the bad guy always wearing dark and the background being gloomy, this puts a mood on the scene and gives the audience a feel of how evil the character is.
Modes of address
The music that is played in the trailer is a mode of address as it sets the scene and for fans of the pirates of the caribbean films the music is significant as it's played in every trailer and at various points throughout the film.
The parts of the film that they chose to show in the trailer are also modes of address as they are the main characters which shows to the audience who they're going to be seeing in the film. The colours that are used in the film are mostly browns and oranges and greens when they're on land. This is to give the audience a feel of heat as the pirates are travelling to their destination. The brown colours are to show the dirtyness of the pirates.
The language that is used in the trailer - firstly he addresses the audience by saying 'Hello boys and girls' which immediately gets you involved. This is known as Direct Address and it is usually unusual to see in a trailer, and is not a normal convention. His tone of voice shows that he is relaxed and that the trailer isn't formal.
Selection of content
All the things that have been selected to go into the trailer by the producers and directors were carefully selected to give the best impression to the target audeince as possilbe to make people want to go and see the film. All the codes and conventions are carefully selected to make sure the film can be portrayed the best it can be in the short amount of time they have in a trailer.
