Listen, ya’ll. I’m writing a paper on the contribution of ancient Islamic science to modern medicine, and let me tell you about Al-Zahrawi, cuz this guy is WILD. Like, I keep getting up to walk in circles about some of this shit.

He invented animal gut sutures, because he needed an internal suture that would dissolve. How did he figure out that animal gut sutures would dissolve? HIS MONKEY ATE HIS LUTE STRINGS AND NEVER POOPED THEM OUT.

Also, he would use GIANT ANTS as wound staples, letting them bite the edges of the wound, then severing the ant’s head from it’s body.

Like... guys... this dude is amazing. He invented the syringe. He performed plastic surgery. I’m so blown away right now.
