NTD: What Can We Do?
There are already a number of relatively cheap and effective medicines which can combat neglected tropical diseases, and many doses are being donated by the pharmaceutical companies which make them. Because of this, the average cost of treatment has been reduced to just 30p per person.
However, there is currently only 38% coverage. This needs to be drastically improved, and is partially due to a funding gap of $220 million per year. To put that into perspective, Americans spend 370 times more than this on pizza. To raise this money, it would be the equivalent of every person in the US eating 1/3 of a slice less pizza per year.
As a student/young person, you can: - Become part of the END7 campus leader’s council (UK and USA) - Run information awareness campaigns - Contact your local MP to raise awareness - Go on and provide short courses in NTD education - Run END7 advocacy campaigns

MedSIN 2015 NC
I'm at a MedSIN national conference in Sheffield about the inequalities in health, both in the UK and worldwide. It's really opened my eyes to how serious the problem is, and what I can do as a medical student to help combat it. To help spread the word and give an insight on Tumblr, I'm thinking of making a set of posts on things that have been covered here, such as on the impact of poverty in England, and a post each on the top 7 neglected tropical diseases, and what we can do about them. If anyone thinks this is a great/terrible idea, or has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it.
We should be adapting health systems to the lives of the people, instead of adapting people’s lives to the system.
