How To Work In The Legal Cannabis Industry In New Mexico
First off, it isn't difficult to obtain these files, that's why I'm sharing them. I want everyone to join this amazing field. It opened my eyes to an entire new reality that I want to live in forever. This field isn't for everyone though, and it is nothing like I ever expected it to be.
Those are the details I'll get into later but its my honest and fair disclosure.
Per most dispensaries policies you need a few important forms to be considered for an interview.
1. Resume
2. Cover Letter (If you haven’t had to create a cover letter before please message me and I will personally help, I understand)
3. State Background Check
- Release of Authorization Form
After you get this form printed you have to take it to a notary to fill it out and get stamped then it has to go to Department of Public Safety up in Santa Fe ( 4491 Cerrillos Rd. Santa Fe, NM 87507) to get reviewed. This is $15.00 to get done and I learned through personal experience that it is exceedingly easier to go get this done by just driving up to Santa Fe instead of sending it in because mine came back clean after 15 minutes of sitting in there and the time it took me through submitting applications and these forms it came back entirely cleared from the state and made my actual licensing process easier.
4. Federal Background Check
- Visit sentrylink.com
Go through the steps to purchase a background check and it will send you a copy of your background check to your email to print out and submit along with these other documents you have acquired.
5. (Optional but highly suggested) Get certified by Cannabis NM Staffing
- https://www.cannanmstaff.com/
This is a $120 course but gives you 5-Star training to get into the field. As New Mexico pushes closer to recreational marijuana, this will become a bigger standard for everyone to obtain but for now I can only say that I highly suggest it because many companies will start requiring it before even getting an interview.
After you complete all of these you have a high chance of at least being called for an interview and can hopefully join the industry. I also recommend actually having a medical cannabis card in the state of NM before this process as it’s still only a medical state and it is typically a practice that only patients work in dispensaries.
I hope this helped and I wish you the best.
