↳ Description: One of the things that The 1975 and I share in common is a love for Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo and her legendary label Comme des Garçons – Matty, George and Ross are pictured above in pieces from her brand PLAY, released in 2014. Conveniently, the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane is currently holding a wonderful exhibition that showcases nearly 100 garments from Japanese fashion designers from the early 1980s to the present day, spanning all possible categories and styles imaginable. Japanese fashion made an enormous impact on world fashion in the late 20th century. Designers such as Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto revolutionised the way we think of fashion today.
... Curated by eminent Japanese fashion historian Akiko Fukai, Director of the esteemed Kyoto Costume Institute in Japan, this exhibition explores the unique sensibility of Japanese design, and its sense of beauty embodied in clothing.

Having recently viewed the exhibition myself, I can confidently say that it is a wonderful display of skill and style; I thoroughly enjoyed my time both in the exhibition as well as the gallery itself. For a band that is so incredibly innovative in their musical style, concepts and image, it would be the perfect way to spend their time in Brisbane.
