Okay, just wait a minute here.
I have seen some people complaining that "why did Meg have to get love interested before she got killed off?" (Except not in precisely those words but love interest can be a verb if I want it to be.)
Now, while everyone is entitled to their opinion, goodness knows that I do *not* hesitate to call this show out on love interesting women when I see it and I really, really didn't see it.
Was Meg attracted to Cas? Hell yes. Did she care about him? Yes, I think it's safe to say she did. But does that automatically make her a love interest? Well... no.
Getting love interested means that your own personality is sidelined in favour of your relationship, that your primary value to the plot is your ability to be in that relationship, and that you forsake your own motivations for those of your partner/potential partner.
YMMV, but to me, Meg felt *very* in character that episode. Point 1 is out. And she was definitely kicking ass and taking names independently of Cas's presence - strike 2.
So, her motivations? Well, Meg herself drew a direct comparison to Sam/Amelia when talking about what she felt about Cas, particularly that Sam loved Amelia at least in part because she made him believe he could get what he had always wanted - a normal life. That doesn't reduce what he felt for her, it just explains it in the context of the rest of his desires. What Meg wants has been firmly established; Crowley, dead. And Cas has the ability to help her achieve that.
Of course, arguably Meg also wanted to survive - but she had the option to. Crowley outright tells her the Winchesters plan to get her killed, and she says she doesn't care if they take him down in the process. When the Impala was driving away, she could have made a run for it and forced the Winchesters to get involved in the fight - but she didn't. She chose to protect them - not Cas, who wasn't in the care, but the Winchesters, because she feels that they have the best chance of killing Crowley. This is her top priority, and she is happy to die for it.
So yes, Meg wanted to hook up with Cas, and maybe even cared about him. But that alone doesn't make her a Love Interest.
