UNFOLLOW Megan Phelps Roper
I have just finished reading this book. She is the daughter of Shirley and granddaughter of Fred. She is best known for being a member of Westboro Baptist Church. They are famous for their picketing on the streets and at funerals. I didn't know anything about them until I watched them on Louis Theroux. The family are nicknamed 'Americas most hated family'.
The church is made up of an entire family, and they cannot marry outside of the church, which means they have to remain single and the church will die out with them. Megan was one of the most vocal church members, on the streets, on Louis Theroux and on the internet. She told Theroux he was going to hell, but Westboro tells everyone they are going to hell.
There's one member of the group who isn't part of the family, his name is Steve and he took control of the church, and the power away from Shirley and Fred. He was a bit of a chauvinist and no one was happy. Megan was growing up, started to question things, and had a crush on a guy on Twitter named Chad (photo of him here). She and her sister left the church. She wasn't the first and she won't be the last, many of young people grow up and leave. It's just a matter of time before Westboro will no longer exist.
Interesting book.
