Heyo, I want to make a status report on my daemon au 🐺🦂
The chapter I'm working on is now at a whopping 16k words which is a RIDICULOUS number seeing as. I have like. a fourth of the way to go until where I want the chapter to end :b Though I feel very strongly about the scope of this chapter, this is also getting Silly so my beta and I have decided to split it into part 1 and part 2
Part 1 would be about 9k and is mostly ready to go, but I'm gonna hold on to it for now so I can ensure it's cohesive with the 2nd part as I go along. (Where the split is may also be subject to change but whatevs). I feel moderately optimistic that I'll be able to finish that within this or next month tho, after which I'll post part 1 and then part 2 the week after for a bit of breathing room :}
And because it's Lucina's birthday today, have a couple of her and Zaahira's baby pictures 🐕 Prior to uhh. Certain events. the forms Zaahira took the most are that of dogs, particularly of huskies and shepherds. She wants to be like her wolf mama but she is simply Too Squishy 🥺🐶
No actually you know what @yoylecake420 I WILL imagine Fire Emblem (Chrobin) mermaid au
In depth imagining below the cut
(warning: it's a lot)
Chrobin Mermaid AU
AU kicks off with fRobin!! Grimleal hierophant and princess in a tower, she was never allowed beyond the walls of their seaside hideout. She grew up with only the Grimleal to interact with, not having any friends outside of the eccentric faithful- Tharja and Henry- who she only gets to talk with for a scant few hours after their ceremonies.
Curious as she ever is, Robin turns to books and trinkets to bring herself out of the doldrums. Her friends sometimes smuggle her things from the outside world, but no one brings her more wonders than her most constant companion, the ocean <3
The waters on her secluded stretch of their hideout are treacherous. The coast is riddled with jagged spires of rock, rough waves, and whirlpools. Yet everyday, especially after storms, the ocean brings her all sorts of curiosities, deposited gently into the tide pools for her to find. Most things are worn and damaged from the journey, but Robin thinks that just makes the stories behind them all the more fascinating.
One day, the ocean brings to her the most fascinating curiosity of all. She's no stranger to the bizarre creatures that call the sea their home, but she's never seen a child of Naga in the flesh before!!!
Born of their god's ancient adversary, the naga are partially human in appearance. But their skin is flecked with dragon scales, with teeth and claws to match, and they have fins like fronds of kelp, and in place of legs, they have a long tail like a sea serpent.
The Grimleal are sworn enemies to Naga's children. Robin is aware of their fraught battles, though she's never seen it for herself. The coast she's allowed at is too perilous for any ship to dock, and few animals larger than a cat can slip through the shore's rocky fangs unscathed.
Well, this naga before her is plenty scathed and Robin decides to nurse him back to health. It goes against all of her father's teachings, but she doesn't like seeing anyone hurt. Moreover, she's simply burning with curiosity. This is her first and only chance to talk to somebody outside of the Grimleal!! Oh the things he could tell her!!!!!
Meanwhile, Chrom wakes up in the care of this beautiful stranger. He has the sense he should be wary (Frederick would certainly say as much if he were there). Particularly when, given his recent battle, he is almost certainly in enemy territory. The Grimleal is a danger to his kind. They are out for Naga's blood, and more crucially, for their most coveted treasure: the Fire Emblem.
But Chrom is a man who pays his debts and he won't repay Robin's mercy with a sword through her gut. He should be more careful though with what he tells her in case she ever uses that information against them. But he can't help it!! Robin's enthusiasm is infectious and he feels a need to satisfy her thirst for knowledge.
It helps that she makes an effort to keep to innocent topics (do naga wear clothes? Do you cook your food? How do you forge and maintain metal underwater?). The conflict is obvious in her eyes whenever she strays too close to sensitive matters regarding security. Despite the curiosity visibly eating her from the inside, she'll redirect her line of inquiry to something Chrom is more comfortable with answering.
Robin also helps him get safely back to open ocean, telling him all her observations on the currents to help him navigate out of the bay and packing him tonics and vulneraries for the journey.
They part on good terms, likewise expressing that they'll probably never see each other again. Yet the thought fills Chrom with sadness. Robin looks so lonely on the shore, especially after she told him there was no one else she could talk to like that.
As he dives back into the waves, he promises himself he'll come back to visit her.
But wait, there's More!!
Chrom surprises her with a visit. As she'd told him, she spends a lot of her time combing the beach and he quickly finds her upon his arrival.
Robin is shocked to see him return, but more than that she's very excited to have his company again. Especially since he'd brought her a gift: a bracelet made by Ylisse's finest artisans.
They whiled away the rest of the afternoon, talking about anything under the sun and sea. Eventually, Robin has to return to the castle before sundown lest her guards come looking for her. She's very loosely supervised, never having gone anywhere all her life, but she still warns Chrom to not get caught. This time when they part, it's with the promise they'll see each other soon.
Robin is quite incentivized to keep her new friend a secret. If they find him, there's no doubt that the Grimleal will gut him like a- well, you know. Fortunately, it's not too strange for her to spend so much time by the ocean, but she does have to be careful about hiding all the gifts Chrom brings her.
Gorgeous large shells, pristine and intact in a way they wouldn't be if it was up to the tides to deliver them. Delicate fish bones and coral formations preserved in elegant patterns. And of course, all sorts of Ylissean crafts. These she keeps particularly close to her chest. The foreign make would instantly garner suspicion, but more than that, they're all her memories with Chrom made manifest.
Chrom has his own reasons for keeping Robin to himself. His retinue certainly wouldn't be thrilled that their prince was risking his life to cavort with the Grimleal hierophant. Though his frequent absences are already drawing attention, especially with rumors flying that he had a paramour (you can't commission that much jewelry and *not* draw attention, Chrom 🙄).
They wouldn't be wrong tho, as Chrobin's relationship does rapidly escalate! They're both very fond of each other, and Robin especially is starved for affection.
⚠️ NSFW + Monsterfuckery tw ⚠️
- look they're relationship is already secret nothing's stopping them from getting freaky about it
- snake fuckers you know what's coming. I'm not gonna make Chrom a naga and *not* capitalize on them hemipenes. Size, shape, and spikeyness to taste but Robin wants those double Ds!!!!! 😤😤😤
- (Chrom is very concerned for her)
- there may be. Anatomical challenges. But Robin is nothing but resourceful. She's also quite the potioncrafter in this au bc she's pretty strapped for hobbies in a world where she's not a tactician lol. Nagas may be built for rougher stuff but it's nothing some appropriately applied defense tonics can't prep her for
- she doesn't bother with birth control tho :) surely they're too physically different for that to even be an issue :)
- :)
Uh Oh, besties!!
Their relationship goes on for a bit too long and the other nagas decide that Chrom can't keep Getting Away with this. What with tensions between the Grimleal and Ylisse on the rise. Not only is Chrom more occupied with his duties, but now his friends (esp Frederick) are constantly hounding him about his secret lover.
Meanwhile, Robin is Going Through It. She hears about the escalating conflict, and with Chrom's prolonged absence, she can't help but be anxious over him. It could also be her fault if something happened to him, like if he was found and attacked while trying to meet with her.
Just the thought makes her physically ill. She's been nauseous, irritable, fatigued, and- hey maybe she really is just sick? She's not feverish though, and it can't be her period either. She hasn't had the blasted thing in-
... Shit.
So Robin goes to the lab to brew a pregnancy test potion™ and no, Aversa, these are perfectly normal ingredients to gather. Mind your own business!! Anyways, Robin confirms she is indeed expecting and any excitement she feels is promptly overshadowed by the fact that she's pregnant with a naga's child. As the Grimleal hierophant.
Uh oh!
While Robin spirals for a couple more days, Frederick finally manages to pester some information out of Chrom and he is NOT pleased. Just when Chrom thinks he has the chance to sneak away and finally see Robin after so long, Frederick tails him to put a stop to this madness.
Frederick: nothing good can come out of this union >:(
Robin: I'm pregnant 😬
Chrom: jejcneksjfbcjen?????!!!!!!
Frederick: *is not paid enough for this bullshit*
Chrom flies into a tizzy at the news. He's ecstatic!! Panicked!! Just absolutely bursting with emotion!! He notices Robin doesn't quite share his enthusiasm and SWEARS to her that he'll protect her and their child no matter the cost.
Robin is skeptical of his ability to do so, especially if he's to protect himself as well. She actually agrees with Frederick that they need to cut this off.
She can't survive in the ocean. And even if Chrom manages to safely take her away, the Grimleal will come looking for their hierophant with a vengeance. Keeping the baby isn't an option for her either if she stays. She shudders to think what her father would do to their half-blood child.
Much as it breaks her heart, she tells Chrom she'll terminate the pregnancy and that he should leave and just forget about her ;(
Chrom sullenly obeys in the moment, but he stews on it for a while and concludes that the whole thing is simply unconscionable!! He can accept whatever Robin decides to do with their baby. What he can't accept is for her entire life to be spent as a prisoner to the Grimleal. He WILL free her dammnit!! He just needs to figure out how
(the author also needs to figure out how)
Girl, WHAT is happening??!!
Faced with this daunting situation, Chrom turns to divine intervention to save his love. That's right, Chrom goes to Naga Herself and with the Power of the Fire Emblem, she gives him the ability to assume human form so he can march right up to the Grimleal hideout to find Robin.
Yeah.
Now Armed with Legs, Chrom hobbles like a baby horse onto land to begin his search. He couldn't start at the beach where he and Robin used to meet. She's since stopped going there, and knowing beyond that would be a restricted area crawling with hostile Grimleal, he could be killed before he even found Robin.
That meant he had to find another point of entry, even if he has to go the long way around to it. Luckily the first Grimleal he runs into are quite benign.
Tharja and Henry are vaguely aware of Chrom. They don't know the truth of what he is, but they learned that Robin had a lover somehow. One she used to meet surreptitiously but was now torn up over it. So imagine their surprise when they meet this strange hobo who wants to go to the Grimleal and meet their hierophant. Like oh gods, that's him isn't it. They pretend to initiate Chrom into the fold to sneak him into the hideout.
Robin meanwhile goes on to perform the ceremonies as she always does, and promptly almost trips over herself when she notices CHROM of all people in the crowd. He's human now, inexplicably, but there was no doubt it was him.
She's mildly successful in brushing off her father's suspicions. She goes to meet with Chrom in the same way she does for Henry and Tharja after their rituals.
Chrom tells her he's here to save her, and just as he gives his spiel about how this isn't about the baby it's about Robin getting control of her own life, she reveals that she's actually still pregnant. She has the means to abort- yay potions!- but she can't bring herself to actually do the deed bc she keeps thinking about what their baby could look like, what it would actually be like to be able to raise them with Chrom, etc etc.
Upon hearing this, Chrom is now Extra Determined to get her out of their. HOW you may ask?? GREAT QUESTION!!
Solutions may or may not involve:
- shenanigans where Chrom pretends to be a Normal Human Grimleal who is Absolutely Not Cozying Up to the hierophant
- Validar being On To Them and actually managing to steal the Fire Emblem somehow
(there should probably be a whole subplot threaded into all of the above where Robin is very much still being groomed into being the vessel for Grima, who Validar is still trying to Awaken^tm)
- Chrobin stealing back the Fire Emblem and also using it's Divine Power to turn Robin into a mermaid
(having Fellblood, Robin's mer form would be like a feathered seal :3 "you mean a penguin??" Feathered. Seal. with six legs.)
- they kill Validar, escape into the ocean, have kids, and peace and love on planet earth <333
Edelgard and Silvally!! Her name is Harmony (she/her bc before therapy was invented all u can do is project on your wierd dog). Used to being hidden away as a Type: Null, Harmony now likes to be included in all of Edie's activities :)
In this au, the deal with Type: Full would be that it'd be the only pokemon that can harness the power of Crests- something previously unique to humans (and Nabateans ofc). With bits of Crest stones or blood, Type: Full would gain that Crest's power as well as it's associated type
Chrobin daemon auuuuuuuuuu (AU but pronounced "awoo")
Chrom gets a wolf for family ties and a fearsome protectiveness. Also maybe a tendency to pack bond with anything (hello recruitment). It makes for fun imagery considering the Shepherds, and to make things more interesting, his dad would’ve also had a wolf daemon. Just a neat little thing for him to sit on >;3c
Robin gets a scorpion for adaptability, cunning, excellent maternal instincts and a bit of a romantic side. Also something for her to think about considering her prophesized role as a traitor uwu Speaking of sins of the father, Validar’s daemon would be a spitting cobra.
Lucina gets a coyote to parallel (heh) her father’s tendencies, if less pack reliant about it. Plus her mother’s tenacity and pragmatism.
Morgan’s daemon is unsettled though has an affinity for intelligent and playful animals like parrots and corvids. His boundless imagination allows for a lot of forms as well :)
