i never know how to phrase this so it doesn't sound like "just stop being scared around wasps lol" but literally Just Stop Being Scared Around Wasps. i mean stop acting scared. you see a wasp and you start making erratic movements and loud noises to chase it off? congrats, you made it worse! don't do it.

and then, when you force yourself to instead act Very Calm and make slooooowww movements, the wasp will not sting you. it might even land on you and walk around a bit and it will not sting you. and it will happen again and again and you're going to feel stupid, like "was i seriously afraid when nothing happened at all?" and you are me. i know this because i did it. A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.

Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.

Your very educational answer to the 'may a donkey fuck your wife' legal document crossed my path again and I have a follow-up question, if that's all right?

What's 'l.p.h.' appearing after 'Pharoah' in all instances? (Is it like the 'p.b.u.h.' that accompanies 'Mohammed' when referring to the founder of Islam? Is it pronounceable?)

l.p.h is exactly what p.b.u.h. is. It's shorthand for 'life, prosperity, health', which comes from translating the Egyptian shorthand 𓋹𓍑𓋴 ꜥnḫ wḏꜢ snb/ankh wedja seneb (these are three words written in their shortest form as three single signs), and follows the name of the King in New Kingdom documents/monuments (mostly post Amarna period). It's part of the formal address of a King** that the Egyptians use to wish good health upon the king in all spoken and written utterances. It even exists in legal oaths taken before trial where they swear an oath to 'the lord l.p.h' not to have spoken falsehood. Egyptian hieroglyphs are both a writing script and an art form, and the Egyptians believed that hieroglyphs themselves were a gift from the gods, so therefore every word or image written down is imbued with Heka (divine power, most commonly referred in GenPop books as 'magic' but that term is no longer used). With every word or image being imbued with Heka, it meant that words were powerful and had the ability to manifest if a person was not careful. This is why Osiris is always referred to as 'the weary one' rather than 'this guy is dead' because they believed words literally had the power to make that a reality. Images were the same, which is why tomb paintings are full of offerings, so that if none are left, the heka in the images would be enough to sustain the deceased when no one visited their tomb anymore. L.p.h. is basically the same as someone toasting the king of England and then saying 'long may he reign'. It's a little shorthand that just wishes the Egyptian King has a long life that they believed was loaded with the power to do just that.

Most Egyptologists will just say the English letters or ꜥnḫ wḏꜢ snb/ankh, wedja, seneb when referring to it.

**I'm using 'king' rather than 'Pharaoh' because while pr-aA 'great house' is a title that existed throughout Egyptian history, it wasn't used to denote the king as his first title after 'nsw' (king) until roughly the end of the Amarna period. Akhenaten begins to use it, though not that much, then subsequent kings use it a bit more, and finally Ramesses II uses it a lot and it rises to common usage.
