Hell to Your Doorstep - The Count of Monte Cristo
I'll deliver hell to your doorstep dressed in rich facade Then, I'll burn you to the ground like an angry god Once you're in my shining cathedral heed the tolling bell It's the final sound you hear as you descend to hell
[...]
I will carry hell to your doorstep; you will rue the day You will reap the hate you've sown no matter how hard you pray It's a place without any mercy, fashioned in cold blood Stones of fear and stones of doubt No forgiveness, no way out Only justice Then, amen!
Megumi knows he isn’t as powerful as his sister, nor as much as the God of the zodiac, but he is still powerful. He knows that most people look at the strange boy with the too-dark colouring and think he’s like his sister, or that it’s some sort of gimmick, and the truth is, he doesn’t need to use his curses very often. Most of the time, they are’t necessary, people don’ bother him, and for the few that do, they’re more put off by his strange ability to pass unseen than any threats.
But in the same way that he’s less powerful, he’s also had more power over them than Saki has always had. It requires more outright desire to do harm than the ability to pick up on the stray thoughts, and because he’s never accidentally hurt people, there’s less guilt about doing it at all. And for the people who deserve it, he’s more than willing.
Megumi Hanajima has no qualms about cursing Akito Sohma. He is, after all, the only person that can.
He doesn’t know the full extent of whaty the zodiac have goen through, but he knows enough, He knows about Hatori’s eye, and about Rin’s ‘fall’, and about Kisa spending weeks in the hospital. It only seems like pure revenge because Akito never thought he’d have to pay.
When faced with the head of the Sohma family, he isn’t interested in regret from him, he wants pain and justice for a bit of what the zodiac have went through- what Hiro has gone through. Akito Sohma is not a cruel elementary student who hurt his sister, he is the the vengeful god who has forever altered the life of the person Megumi loves.
And when Megumi curses Akito? It doesn’t matter that he’s not as powerful as Saki or Akito himself. it simply matters that he is colder than his sister, with and that he has affection for Hiro (and the others).
Verse Updates for Icarus, Megumi, and Tryphon
Icarus || Old Guard
There’s some debate over if the thing that killed Icarus was the fall or the drowning. In truth, he doesn’t remember. He remembers the fall in detail: feathers trailing past his grasping hands, hot wax making paths down his skin, the hollow wishing sound of the air as he fell through it at terminal velocity. He remembers that.
But then there was pain, and water, and then he was waking in the shallows of sand bar, not dead but impossibly alive. He noticed he stopped ageing, and then there were wounds he should have died from that healed in minutes, and it was easy to realize that there was something wrong. Humans could not survive such lethal things, much less walk away from them in minutes.
The dreams came after that, or before that maybe. The millennia have made those first few days fuzzy. But in his dreams, there were others like him, in cities unlike the one he was in, but not so much that he could not find them. Icarus started to walk.
Megumi || Member of the Zodiac
The curse of the zodiac doesn’t care for names, it cares for blood. Megumi, even if he doesn’t know it, is a Sohma in blood. Saki had already been born strange, with too wide eyes, and an ability to watch people that unnerved those who weren’t used to it. And then there was Megumi- whole and healthy until his mother held him, and he turned into a rat, small enough to be cupped int he palm of her hand.
There was alarm of course, how could there not be? But she passed the small rat off to her husband, and when the doctor’s turned back around, it was easy to quickly answer that in her exhaustion, she’d passed her son off to her husband. They quickly learned that if she held him, he would turn into a rat, but if his father did, he was fine. They adapted: if they went out, Saki would hold onto their mother, and their father would hold Megumi.
He was cautious, and he learned fast to avoid physical contact, and when he was sick, to avoid going in to school, for fear of a sudden transformation.
Megumi grew up outside the stranglehold the Sohma held over the zodiac. And if there’s an empty place at New Years? A simple strange turn of events, perhaps a breaking of the curse.
*Megumi’s spirit can be changed if writing with other zodiac members.
Trypon || Yuri!!! On ICE
Tryphon remembers very clearly, the first ice show he ever got to see. It was late February, and one of the classes at the local rink were holding one to showcase their years talent. The costumes were transfixing, and the sound of the skates over the music settled under his skin comfortingly. He begged his mother for lessons, and at the next year he was one of the kids skating out over the ice to the claps of the parents in the audience.
When he was a little bit older, and there was a bit more money to spare, he took ballet lessons, and for a few brief months, he contemplated taking those instead, but you could not glide in ballet the way you could on ice, and the satisfaction from a dance never seemed to have the same feeling as it did on ice, but it did keep him more flexible, and during the half of the year where there was no ice, it was useful.
When he was 13, he was spotted by one of the actual coaches, and not just one of the trainers like he had during his childhood. I would mean he could train himself, and not just as part of a group. The offer was impossible to refuse. He left behind the skating classes, and started competing.
For what felt like almost the first time, he was surrounded by people tat understood, and that were devoting their lives to the same thing. Four years later, he transitioned into the senior division, where the competition was harder, and his coach would finally let him perform quads.
(kid meme) Haru & Megumi
Name: Kaede Hanajima Sohma
Gender: male
General Appearance: Kaede, in physical appearance takes dramatically more after Megumi. The same purple eyes, and black hair (though inheritance comes in strange ways, and Kaede took the white from Haru’s hair, though it’s far less notable than it is on him. It could also just be a case of poliosis). In style though, Kaede very much looked to Haru. The same punk style, but with his own touch of flair; floral decals in silver outlines, with more colour than Haru’s black and white palette.
Personality: Considering his parents, it would be more surprising if Kaede was loud and excitable. Point of fact, he isn’t. He tends to be pretty quiet and reserved, though... not always nice. He was quiet, and content to play the observer though unafraid to call out the people he saw being cruel, and then he’d fade back into the background, watching, and giving comfort.
Special Talents: With Haru being one of the zodiac, and his aunt Saki with her waves, and Megumi with his curses, there was almost no way that Kaede was going to be completely normal. And he wasn’t. Mostly normal yes, but not entirely normal. Kaede took after Hatori, with his ability to erase people’s memories.
Who they like better: Megumi
Who they take after more: Haru
Personal Head canon: Megumi expects a lot of things to happen when curses go wrong: a week of night terrors, a sense of prickling paranoia, and other minor to more severe consequences. Magic is fickle, and it doesn’t always work quite in the way he expects, even after years of practice. Of course, he doesn’t expect to end up in a woman’s body for most of a year. Kaede knows his conception is a strange thing, it’s a story that his aunts and uncles like to remind his parents of at family dinners, and something that he’s long since passed off as just the regular oddness of the Sohma family. 99 Ways to Curse Someone
Megumi reads the books on how to curse people because his powers are different than Saki’s, and she needs help in a way that he doesn’t. His curses aren’t necessarily intuitive, but they come easily: a name, a desire, and enough emotion to make it work, he doesn’t have to worry about each stray thought of someone that passes by.
He reads the books because his parents won’t, and they’re singular in a way that means the only voices they have inside their heads are their own, and the only minds they have control over are their own. In that regard, he’s the same, though even then, it doesn’t feel the same, he sees too much, and is privy to too much to feel like he’s entirely alone.
The books don’t help at all; they don’t give any hints to what Saki’s struggle is, or why she can do what she does. There’s no blood, or dolls left in the moonlight to either of them, they just... can do what they do. They’ve been off since birth.
It’s hard for their parents, Megumi knows, but he reads all the amateur books he can on curses because it’s something he can do. Even if it can’t help, he may get lucky and find the one piece of information that finally makes it all make sense. He doesn’t read them to learn how to curse people, he can do that already, the books are always wrong, but he can do it as some small hope he can help his sister.

• BIOGRAPHY •
When Megumi was born, his parents knew that he was like their first child; strangely quiet with large eyes that just watched people. He was quiet, and perfectly content to be left in his seat to watch the goings-on in the world around him.
He had always know that he and Saki were different than the other children, and by the time he was old enough to talk, their family had words for it, mostly ones whispered between the adults at the table when he would sit at the couch with his sister. It wasn’t much later that he learned about his own abilities, but he ignored them most of the time because there was already so much to deal with.
The kids at school didn’t bully him like they had his sister; partially because they had heard what she could do- had done, and partially because the teachers were more aware after what had happened. It was isolating, but his parents loved him, even if they didn’t understand, and Saki did understand. And really, it wasn’t like he needed their acceptance, if they wanted to assume and mock, he didn’t care.
Megumi is still quiet, and still content to watch people; he’s perceptive, and that’s probably the thing that creeps people out more than the curses, though that doesn’t help. He’s gotten better at them- better at the control, and the direction of them, though he has few uses to use them aside from an idle warning.
• Megumi is unaware that both he and his sister, Hana, are the result of their mother’s several year affair with a member of the Sohma family. His father has no idea, and his biological father has never mentioned or acknowledged them. However, both Hana and Megumi share variations of his mental power, as well as his unique colouring, and several of his mannerisms. He also has a half brother, but they’re unaware of the relation.
