ózef Mehoffer (1869-1948) was a Polish painter and decorative artist, one of the leading artists of the Young Poland movement and one of the most revered Polish artists of his time.

Mehoffer often painted likenesses of exquisitely dressed ladies against a background of richly patterned tapestries. In this case, the decorative setting is provided by a killm rug designed by the artist himself, which was part of the décor of the Sztuka Association room at a 1905 exhibition in Munich.
