Finally, sun!
*Last weekend recap*
Embarked on a 2.5 hour bus ride to spend the weekend in the beach towns of Mollendo and Meijia. During the trip, a man on headset was trying to sell Chinese tea, convincing passengers of its cleansing properties and it being the reason why Asians are so healthy and less apt to develop cancer. He didn´t bother to give me a sample packet to examine. Guess he figured I didn´t need it since I´m Asian...
My friend and I were sitting directly across from the middle doors and after a mid-route pickup, the doors never closed as the driver continued to speed along the highway. We gripped onto our seats, praying for our lives. (This was on Santa Ursula. We had a less obtrusive experience traveling on Del Carpio on the return.)
Stayed at a hostel my host mother recommended off the plaza in Mollendo (La Cabaña), but the first night was a disaster. We had to ask for our towels and pillow cases as they were missing; the bathroom floor turned into a lake due to no shower curtain, a leaky sink, and a cascading waterfall emerging from our ceiling in the early morning. As this place came highly recommended, I thought for a split second that maybe we were staying at another hostel under the same name. Thankfully, we didn´t have to bother with having to find another place to stay as they kindly let us change rooms for our second night.
Took a combi to the neighboring beach town of Meijia. It's more tranquil and less crowded in general. I highly recommend it. If I make my way back to the coast, definitely more time in Meijia and the next beach town, La Punta, is on my "to see" list.
