Any writing advice for someone wanting to explore their own queerness in their writing?
my advice is that queerness will be a constant theme in your writing, and that as a theme it requires reviewing your work to discover. once discovered you can then choose how to engage with it.
to break it down: every single time i write i'll come back later and realise how autobiographical it is. as an inherent quality/experience, queerness will be inherited by what you make, alongside other qualities and experiences. so i will read a draft and realise what i relate to in it and then choose whether or not i want to reinforce it.
this realisation can be for plot-points that feel parallel to my own experiences, to things that feel directly allegorical, to just realising i've directly invoked something. this reinforcing can be deliberate (i.e adding detail to a queer element) or it can be passive (things will change naturally if you're aware of how you relate to it).
hopefully i make sense. i think it's the same process for dealing with any theme in a work, and i find queerness is one of several qualities/experiences that recur (also inc. whiteness, disability, SA, SW, etc).
queerness will occur on its own, you just need to find it. for examples:
Long Time, No Shear started as a joke about lesbian sheep-shearers and was then reinforced on social exclusion of trans women in queer communities, with Ch2 being focused on it.
Mechismo /// Speak started as a mech pilot doesn't want to be puppygirl 'hound' and was then reinforced on trying to escape from, but still being subject to, a fetishistic SW ex-client.
Hell's Ashes started as 'what if this background character met the main characters and it revealed their history' and was then reinforced on how sex work, transfemininity, and culture-loss intertwine as an experience.
Multiple WIP stories like Little Miss Laser and Truth to be Dared deal with the power dynamic of being trans in a relationship with a cis person, to be finished properly at some point lol.
and more besides. i admit that the subject matter i want to dive into most has been sitting in my backlog for a long time. mechsploitation as a genre esp i have and will continue to dance around the core themes of until i hit the actual pieces that really earn that name lol.

i write deeply -- usually unintentionally -- from personal experience. and whether you share those experiences, or you find a mirror in them to your own, that's cool to me.

I love that so many of your posts are inspired by conversations with your girlfriend, because I end up sending a lot of them to my girlfriend. We love all the tgirl mecha content and some of the vampire writings have sparked conversations of our own

for some history, it's mistakes that started me writing after a 10 year hiatus of fic writing. i wrote on /r/writingprompts as a teen but the (lack of) metrics discouraged me (learned this lesson again on cohost, before turning off likes & shares) + dysphoria making me too self-conscious for my own good. aside from some worldbuilding and games writing it really was a long time since. cohost's writing prompts (and the copious mech lesbian fic i read one weekend in a hotel to inspire me) really helped a ton, as it did for a bunch of us.
the current pieces are part of an anthology 'sublimatic rose' that serves as a prequel/taster for a visual novel i'd like to do some day. it's been a while since i've written one of them but most assuredly there's more to come, sweet maretta has more to suffer lol.
