Melinus nerviglumis
Melinus nerviglumis is a very showy small clump-forming grass with a wide distribution in sub-Saharan Africa. It is about a foot tall (30 cm), and has plumes of reddish-purple flowers in the spring and summer. As with many other grasses, these look terrific when back-lit.

Melinus nerviglumis
Many ornamental grasses have been brought into cultivation from all around the world. Melinus nerviglumis is native to sub-Saharan Africa, and makes foot-high clumps of blue-green narrow leaves, attractive in their own right. The tall plumes of reddish flowers are a wonderful bonus, adding a contrasting color and serving to catch the light. Its common name is “Ruby Grass”.
