This is another beloved Mel Brooks film and yet it isn’t close to being one of my favorites. Maybe it’s because Star Wars is an easy target, but something just doesn’t make me laugh as hard as in his other films. Oh there’s a bunch of great moments in this, like the parody of Alien posted above. I love it that Mel even got John Hurt to reprise himself to relive the scene. But those moments are few and far between. I gotta give Brooks and his crew credit though for going full out on the parody. It’s amazing how much Brooks is willing to go to make the parody perfect whether it be Frankenstein, Star Wars, or even the Robin Hood mythos.
