from what i can recall, the movie and the show were being developed concurrently. at the very least, the show was stated to be made in two years’ time. the movie was released june 2017 and the show was released in july 2018; they didn’t have the final movie to adapt on during the pitch bible/story phase so they probably looked to only the books-- or if they had bits of movie details, then edith wasn’t there yet. 

so the show is less of a soft continuation, and more of an alternate take imo

there was a small edith cameo in one of the last(?) tetocu productions released, the christmas blissmas special

this specific plot beat is literally one of the oldest concepts i nailed down for this comic since its one of those important scenes/Scenes I Really Wanted To Draw For Symbolic And Or Fun Composition Reasons

the scene’s final iteration in the music room/thumbnail sketches were made months in advance and its final versions are put up in a queue once i felt like there was a sufficient amount of them. if it looks like a reference to a new thing, it probably isn’t
