As the alliance all jumped off of the train and made their way into the Dauntless compound they were temporarily stopped short by the sound of music and the Capitol seal being flashed in the sky. It was almost as if the four of them frowned in unison when 'The Fallen' flashed up in front of their eyes. None of them were stupid, they all had a pretty good idea what 'The Fallen' meant, but none of them really wanted to see it.
The first face was that of Alexia's, none of them had really gotten to know the girl but the replay of Melodee her life made the four of them feel uncomfortable. The next face to flashed was Rina's, Fabio had to turn his head away from the replay because if it looked bad to him in his memory, he sure as Hell didn't want to see what it looked like to everyone else. He stepped into the Dauntless compound not taking another look at the Fallen, he didn't have the strength in him to see the face of someone he had grown to care about. After Rina, came Solomon killed swiftly and efficiently by Dorian. He stopped there with a stoic expression on his face, as far as he was concerned, the kid deserved it. And either way, he was probably doing him a favour, because if Fabio had anything to do with his death, it would be a lot less than efficient. Isa also ducked her head down and filed back into the Dauntless compound when the small boy from Candor flashed up on the screen. She didn't know if it was exactly guilt that she was feeling, but whatever the feeling was, it wasn't positive.
The next three deaths caused by Sabrina just cemented the reality of what was happening to Melodee and Dorian, the only two left. After Artemis' face flashed up on the screen and the Capitol seal flashed up on the screen one last time, silence ensued. Both Dorian and Melodee whispered the number 'seven' at the same time before looking at each other. Only one of them could go to go home and with the number depleting so quickly, who knew whether it could be their final moment together. No one knew. They walked back into the Dauntless compound hand in hand and came up towards a still troubled Fabio and Isa who were sat together, Fabio with his arm around Isa's waist and her head on his shoulder.
"Seven down, seventeen more to go." Dorian announced to the pair who turned their heads to look at him.
"Who were the other three?" Fabio asked curiously, a part of him wanted to know who else had the guts to get their hands dirty.
"Sabrina got the couple from her Faction... Cason and Finch. And Serena from Amity got Artemis."
"Fuck off." Fabio had met them both and the idea of Sabrina killing two people was just as far fetched as Serena killing one.
"Believe it or not. Sabrina dumped Finch into the marshes with a Taser and she was electrocuted to death, and Cason she shot with a flare gun and burned his insides out." Melodee spoke from beside Dorian with a grim look on her face, and just by the description, it was clear that it was in now way, shape or form pleasurable to watch. "And Serena strangled Artemis to death with a shoelace."
At this point Isa just rolled her eyes, first death by electrocution, then a flare gun, and now a shoelace. People were getting awfully resourceful, she was thinking in her mind. "This is insane."
"Insane doesn't describe what this is. There isn't a word to describe what this is." Dorian said quietly before leaning on the railings. The sky was dark and a dark atmosphere had set between the four of them. It was the people you would least expect to turn into killers that turned, they thought silently as they walked further into the Dauntless compound. They were all seemingly safe right now, but it didn't exactly mean that they would be for the rest of the night.
"Where are we going to sleep? We need to rest if we're going to be okay enough to fight if we need to." Isa said to the others as they walked around aimlessly.
"How about the initiate quarters? This seems like a pretty good replica and in all honesty, I don't feel good about being separated." Melodee offered and the group agreed. There were plenty of beds, showers and although initiation might not have brought back the happiest of memories, it was familiar. It didn't take long to navigate to the initiate quarters. Fabio, Isa and Melodee dumped their bags down on the floor and all of them flopped down onto beds. It was the first time that they could almost relax since the morning and they were savouring every moment of it. They opened up the packs distributing whatever food they had for the rest of them to eat, but if they were honest with themselves. No one felt like eating, not even Fabio.
"I'll take first watch, it'll be good, just in case something comes during the night. I'm not a fan of surprises." the three of them nodded and Dorian almost went to protest which made Fabio smile a little. "Don't worry, when I get tired I'll be sure to wake you up so you can take my shift." he offered with a little smug smile. It wasn't what Dorian was getting at, but evidently it didn't matter.
"I'd love to see you try Palas." and that made Fabio snort with laughter.
"Whatever, try and stop me." The girls looked back and forth at the pair as the continued to exchanged remarks and shook their hands almost to say 'boys...' before eventually breaking them apart.
Both Melodee and Dorian shared a bed, and Dorian with his arms protectively wrapped around her they fell asleep just as they fell in love, slowly and then all at once. Isa took the bed closest to where Fabio was keeping watch and he absentmindedly ran his hands through her hair and hummed a song he learned as a child to calm her mind. Only when her breathing became regular and deep, and when her grip loosened on her hand did he let go.
