About “Life Is Not Over” (2024 version)
“Life Is Not Over” is a deeply personal piece within the Softwood project, rooted in memory and transformation.
The track is dedicated to my grandmother Julia Clara GROSSFELD, who raised me and passed away in 2014. She was a strong and inspiring figure, co-running a well-known French Fries Restaurant and Take-Away in Ghent, Belgium named "FRITUUR ELGA" during a time when reputation was built purely through word of mouth. Her presence, energy, and legacy remain an essential part of my inner world.
Rather than expressing loss in a literal way, the track seeks to translate memory into motion — turning absence into a continuous flow. The 2024 version introduces a more pronounced rhythm and a subtle club-oriented structure, allowing the piece to evolve from a purely introspective space into something more physical and immersive.
This duality — between intimacy and movement — reflects the core intention of Softwood: creating sonic spaces where remembrance becomes alive, almost tangible.
“ Life Is Not Over ’24 ” will appear on the upcoming album Unseen Presences for my project SOFTWOOD; a body of work exploring the invisible emotional and symbolic connections that continue to shape us beyond absence.
