The book is three days away from being sent to the printer. Author would like to solicit a few more quotes from certain people to put on the back cover. Marketing Manager has informed Author that it's too late to have those people read an advance copy of the book, submit a quote, and for us to redesign the cover to incorporate those quotes. Author comes crying to me, her acquiring editor, and tells me: "This is a grievous, major loss."
Never mind the fact that she could still solicit these quotes, and they could be used in a) The paperback edition, b) The website, c) The catalog, d) Advertisements, e) In posters at her various book signings and events, f) In press releases, g) Wherever else she damn well pleases.
She has overreacted like this to everything throughout the production process. This book can't be done fast enough.
