#i wanna see what changes as grace gets more fluent in eridian #and how they navigate the language barrier on erid… i think his writing on the whiteboard is picked up by sensors #+ translated in real time to his students #since rocky was using a live translator he wouldn’t necessarily need to keep it on him once grace gets a handle on his language But #it’s cool asf that he has that technology. bc it would work wonders for grace to have a live translator on erid #and thank FUCK they both have primarily sound based languages!!!!#i like to think rocky and grace can communicate well in english if needed (cool secret alien speech!!) by grace just not translating #and rocky firing off a rapid sequence of frequencies that correspond to alphabet characters so he can text-to-speech #AND…. thinking about the language translator becoming more and more nuanced over time as they learn to differentiate things #like dialects and verbal tone shifts and conjunctions/linguistic shortcuts/pronunciation variance #GAAAHHHHHH #(and adrian not really fluent at all but able to recognize the english for ‘hi/hello adrian’ and ‘rocky’ :’] )#melon is talking #project hail mary #phm #AND NAMES…. grace gets such a short frequency but im choosing to believe eridian names are complex like the leg markings #i think once rocky rly learns about the first/middle/last name business + the meaning behind names + naming conventions #he’d have a more accurate name or translation
