WH40K Homebrew Space Marine Chapter: Stormwolves — October 2025 Update
So, I had a bad day today, and don't want to elaborate on that here.
However, I've been able to distract myself from that, because Games Workshop has updated the Warhammer 40K 10E Rules PDFs again.
Now that each faction that's getting a Codex this edition has gotten one, they decided to re-organize the mess of PDFs into single files consolidated by faction.
Prior to this, factions might have had an Index and/or FAQ PDF, Grotmas 2024 Detachment PDF, Non Grotmas Detachment PDFs, one-off unit PDFs for stuff that didn't get into the codex, Forge World/Imperial Armour PDFs, and Legends datasheet PDFs. Those have all been now replaced with a single PDF per faction with everything you need to know that isn't in your Faction's codex.
In theory. Except for points values, which are in a different PDF. (But they did merge the Legends Units points list into that same PDF, so that's something.) Also except for the Game Balance changes, which are in yet another PDF.
Then of course some factions are semi-dependent on information in other Faction's PDFs, like a whole list of Space Marines Legends Datasheets that can also be used by Chaos Space Marines with a few keyword swaps, but are only in the one PDF and not the other.
And GW is going to GW, even when they try to make improvements. We finally get the Legends Datasheets for what got cut from Codex Space Wolves. They did not, in fact, give us Firstborn versions of the Bloodclaws and Grey Hunters to go alongside the more restricted loadouts of the new boxlocked Primaris versions of these datasheets. So I don't feel bad about starting on making my own homebrew copies of the old datasheets.
We did get a Legends version of the Firstborn version of Wolf Scouts, but we're due for a Primaris upgrade for that unit soon, which is good, because they forgot to give them points in the Legends list. Same with the Long Fangs.
There's other quality control issues with this update, like the fact that they forgot that Deathwatch is supposed to have Legends units in the Imperial Agents faction. They also forgot that Imperial Guard has two Forge World/Imperial Armor Datasheets. We have points values for all of these, but if you didn't save the old PDFs or the URLs for them, you can't currently find the corresponding Datasheets on their website. The missing IG datasheets are on the app, but that misses the point of making rules available via PDF.
Anyway, barring any shakeups in the 10E meta that prompt major points changes, my Homebrew codex feels fairly final. The Space Wolf Codex and its associated Legends units are out now. There are new Kill Teams due out soon for Deathwatch Veterans and Wolf Scouts, but I have to see what happens to the old versions of the units when the new ones come out.
Like before, I'm going to link to the Homebrew "Codex" for the Stormwolves, as well as a separate image gallery if you just want to see all the pixel art and 3D renders I've made for my chapter and their rogue trader void fleet allies without having to scroll past lore and sample armylists.
