SpoonwoodDraws is a Scientific illustrator and artist that specializes in animal, fantasy and design; Spoon has a great eye for balance and elements, every illustration is a treasure to look at!

Spoon has been an integral part of the Cafe and is always there to help as well as hang out. And thus they have assumed a "Community Sage" role. Spoon recently hosted a super informational workshop on how to draw animals and has plans to host more in the future. Thank you so much for being such a great part of the Cafe and making it what it is today!

How Does Cara Come Up With The Designs?

Cara Brown has a keen eye and a constant yearning to create beautiful objects that bring the new and the old together. Her brands represent different mediums for bespoke, one-of-a-kind pieces that tell a story and carry on a legacy. She features both her Found Object and Horse Brass jewelry lines on this site along with her new passion project, LifeJacketTM, which captures the chapters of your life on hand-selected, vintage tweed jackets.

The Story Behind Cara Brown Designs:

After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Cara and a partner began making Christmas ornaments out of antique jewelry and beads procured from estate sales. Their jeweled balls found their way into local boutiques in Fort Worth, TX and were eventually distributed by Neiman Marcus.

Eighteen years later, after raising three children in her 18th century New Jersey farmhouse, Cara has introduced a new line of necklaces that are entirely rooted in her history. Each piece is handcrafted, combining unique found objects and semi-precious or antique beads to create one-of-a-kind works of art that are to be worn and distinguish you in your “everyday uniform.”

Within a year of production, Barneys NYC on Madison Ave picked up her two lines. Today, you can find them at various Saks 5th Ave locations and luxury boutiques throughout the country.

Meet: Brandeis Short of Pillar & Peacock

BRANDEIS SHORT, and ADRIANNE BUGG, the Principal Designers of Pillar & Peacock.

Welcome back to our regular feature where we introduce you to the local people who bring vision and great living and to TSG Huntsville!

We caught up with Brandeis Short of Pillar and Peacock to ask her some questions about her business!

TSG:  What inspired you to start your own business?

Brandeis:  With over 15 years working as an Interior Designer at an architecture and interiors firm, I decided to go off my my own. Eight years ago this month (October) we (Adrianne Bugg and Brandeis Short) created Pillar & Peacock. We feel strongly about creating a design that is an authentic reflection of our client. We see it as a partnership and love the collaboration with our clients.

TSG:  What is unique about your business?

Brandeis:  We are an interior design and architecture firm that is dedicated to synthesizing beauty and function. Our name reflects our commitment to both exquisite design and precise planning: Pillar, for architectural fundamentals that yield functionality, and Peacock, for flourishes of bold beauty. We're driven by the firm belief that design should be an authentic reflection of your purpose. We have very personalized, collaborative approach that ensures seamless roll-outs but also completed projects that stand the test of time-- intuitive, beautiful, visionary spaces that simply work.

TSG:  When you're not working, what are you doing?

Brandeis:  We both have families with little ones. I also love to play tennis, boat or work on puzzles! Adrianne loves to mountain bike, boat and read! We both like wine and a cucumber martini!

TSG:  What is your favorite thing about Huntsville?

Brandeis:  I love the mountains! I love the different amazing views that are captured in this city!

TSG:  Give us some words you live by.

Brandeis:  "Work hard, play hard," and "It is what it is."

TSG:  What is on your desk right this instant?

Brandeis:  An empty coffee mug, ear pods (can't live without them), P&P stationary, stamps and the newest Veranda magazine. Oh- and my Shindig water bottle.

TSG:  What do you never leave home without?

Brandeis:  My water bottle or my phone!

TSG:   Is there anything else you want us to know/share?

Brandeis:  Pillar and Peacock has three offices! One on Court Street in Florence, where Brandeis lives, the second in Richmond, Virginia and the third in Irvington, Virginia which is where Adrianne resides. Irvington is the "river" to Richmond and is about 1.25 from the city. While we don't have a physical address in Huntsville, but we are there often- at least every week, usually more than once! We have loved getting to know more about the city and are excited about growing more in Huntsville!
