One Insecurity: The feeling that I don’t quite fit into any group of people
Two Fears: When I was tiny, I had regular bad dreams of a war in the streets; I had an “evacuation plan” of what to grab, should the tanks come: having read a few or more dozen history books by now, it really scares me how easily changes in society and economy can lead to big bad military conflict. Yes, in Europe too. The other fear? That there will be a moment when I realise I’ve turned into my parents.
Three Turn-Ons: Oxford shirts with sleeves rolled up; intelligent sense of humour; a certain way of standing with hands deep in pockets and leaning against a doorframe;
Four Life Goals: to work only with people who inspire me; to be paid enough to not panic about money ever again; to know for certain that the parts of my family that matter to me are happy; to look back at one point and be able to say, yes, I did it well.
Five Things I Like: public river transport, the rush of emotions from a film festival, lying down on forest floor in summer and watching the treetops swaying; that moment when I start to feel good at a party (because most of any party I feel awkward and out of place, so those times when it works, it feels like magic), showing something new to kids for the first time.
Six Weaknesses: I suck at numbers; I get far too easily distracted by a combination of charm and intelligence; I’m unable to stop reading a story when I really should be sleeping, I break promises I give to myself about myself too easily, I should say ‘no’ more.
Seven Things I Love: passionate storytelling; the silence of snow falling (yes, I’m aware there’s a bunch of you guys probably getting a bit much of the white menace these days, I hope it’s at least a little bit fun too?); the adrenaline rush of something working out; the feeling of falling into a book (when you will walk into a lamp post because you are reading even on the streets), seafood, theatre, cooking with friends.
