Jaws stuff

So there is actually some controversy as to whether it was set on Long Island or not (yes, I've been reading about this for the last hour). Although the movie was filmed in New England, we were always led to believe it was based on the Long Island town of Amityville (and other waterfront towns of Long Island). 

In fact, I am pretty sure the book specifies this and I just found this online (and we know that if it's on the internet it's true):

The fictional town of "Amity Island" in the book "Jaws" is a composite of several south shore Suffolk County seaside communities. "Amity Island" is mainly based on Amagansett, but the book uses other several communities to make the composite, such as Amityville, Fire Island,  and Sayville.

And now I see from reading all this stuff that the book was set in a fictional town on Long Island, but the movie version is of a New England town. 

So, everyone is right!
