Being big into video games news and retro video games content is really confusing when my family apparently owned one of the four Memorex VISes out there
Like, imagine if there was a game console that /only your family ever had/
That's the experience I have. Y'all don't know about the weird rain-people game?
The Absolute Worst Video Game Consoles of All-Time (Part 5)
Description: This list will rundown the worst home gaming & portable devices of all time. Some you may have played, many i’m sure you have not because either they were complete market failures or they folded under the weight of other much better products at the time.
25.Game Wave Family Entertainment System-The Game Wave was kind of like the Nuon in the sense that it was more DVD player than game console, the controllers it came with for multi-player were actually just TV remotes. I'm not going to trash it too much because like the Ouya it's not made by some seasoned game development company, it was a vision aimed at Family Entertainment. Too many consoles on this list forgot that the GAMES are the most important part of the journey though and Game Wave was no exception.
24.Funtech Super A'Can-There is nothing particularly wrong with the Super A'Can except for the fact that all it can play is Taiwanese knock-offs. Pretty much every game on it is a version of a game you've played before and enjoyed; like Bomberman or Sonic the Hedgehog, but they have been altered to look like new properties. Basically Taiwan wanted to stake their claim in the growing gaming industry but they didn't really know how so they just copied everyone else’s moves...and nobody likes a copycat.
23.Tectoy Zeebo-The fact that this came out in 2009 well after the Xbox 360 & Sony Playstation 3 had been released is just bizarre. It's basically a home console that plays cell phone quality games and not cell phone quality like on smart phones now, but cell phone quality back when Blackberry's were popular. This was Brazil's attempt at getting into the home entertainment market and i'm not sure why they ACTUALLY thought such out-of-date technology was going to go over well in the time period where this was released.
22.Memorex VIS-I'm not sure how to approach how much this sucks because i'm not sure who the target audience was. There's a lot of educational stuff on it for kids but then also like some Fitness and Mystery based stuff for adults. My biggest gripe about this console is it's another one of these disk players with nothing really special to add to the industry it's trying to tackle. Like, even the COVERS for the games on the console are just a drag to look at and it's not a pleasant surprise when you actually play them, like how the cover of the first Mega Man or the first Suikoden games looked terrible but the game itself actually turned out to be a classic. No, the games are just as boring as advertised. Some of these aren't even games they are Encyclopedias or Tutorials.
21.Bandai Terebikko-Bandai Terebikko is a telephone. It's toy telephone that is a console. The games are basically interactive videos and you connect with the characters through the phone. That seems like fun for really little kids but there wasn't a lot of content made for it so you will run out quick and the console can't do much else but that. Interestingly enough, they were able to get Nintendo's Mario characters for these interactive videos as well as the cast of Dragonball Z which is cool because you can't get this content anywhere else but through these games, but that doesn’t make it a better console.
