this is actually a HUGE part of my kingdom hearts au, actually! in the au, the protagonist kaeli learns from sora that, while the games do get a good handful of details correct, they also messed up a lot of things. like how organization xiii really is just a massive cult and xehanort is using it as a way of gathering people to fight/work for him and cherrypicking the best members for the final fight between light and darknes instead of the insanely convoluted time-travel stuff we get in the games. a lot of ventus and vanitas lore gets changed too.
the au is a fun mess 🫠 i'd have to dm you about it, it's too long to put in one ask
