Description: September is National Literacy Month, a time to celebrate the joy of reading. As families look for books to buy or borrow, Black families are often faced with a limited selection of stories that reflect their experiences, images, cultures. Stacy Ladonna, founder and executive of Black Children’s Books and Authors (BCBA) will discuss her nonprofit’s mission to promote awareness of children’s and young adult literature by Black authors. Later in the program, she will have a conversation with Memphis authors, Dr. Breanna Fulton and Gina J. Lewis.

Dr. Breanna Fulton is the author of A is for Alcorn: Alphabet Book and Brown Child You Are: Positive Affirmations for Children of Color.

Gina J. Lewis is the author of When I See You Again.

Life

Life is what you make of it.

It's what energy you put into it that you get out of it.

Life gives you countless numbers of chances that we each pass up every day without noticing it.

If you don't believe me, take a second a look bsck briefly to see a few chances you had that if you took your life would be drastically different and possibly much better than you have now.

Now I'm not writing this to show you all the opportunities you missed and to make you feel bad.

I'm writing to show you all the things that happened in your life and the fantastic opportunities that you passed early on to mold you in to the person you have become today.

To set you up for what you have been building up to all this time.

I'm writing this to make sure that once that grand life changing and ultimate happiness scenario you have been working towards since you started this life presents itself, you don't fail to take the opportunity to cease it, to capture it and not let it slip between your finger tips.

Because when it does, there is a small chance that you may not get it again.

Unless you decide to make it again of course.

Here's to you and you never forgetting to Carpe Diem.

Of Course

I have always been a sure or sounds great kind of guy. Every once in a while a yup or a yea or ya!

But I say of course to you and you make me think absolutely!

It doesn’t even worry me any more but I am at peace with it and am happy ever time I have a reason to say it to you. Even if I am not your of course, I’m happy you could be mine

I look forward to our conversations that we have and having the chance to say it. Even if you don’t, you will always be my of course and I absolutely love you.

My dissapointment in this world has grown to the point that I no longer wish to be apart of it but only to change it so that one day I will want to be a part of it again.

Tonight

It's beautiful here tonight. I wish you were here and not there. We'd sit by the lake and watch as the remaining glimpse of the sun departs. I'd bring the bug spray as I know your hatred for parts of this place are great but I'd do whatever It takes to hold you close here even if only for a moment

Today I say goodbye to all the sadness and sorrows and say hello to life anew.
