Ramadhan is the month of blessings with many Muslims paying close attention to remain steadfast in their religious duties and essentially refraining from inflicting anything detrimental to the people around them and themselves. It is a month of giving as well with many people being a bit more generous and opening their hearts and of course, their wallet to help the needy.
Enjoy Chef Ismail’s specially crafted ‘kampung’ cuisine at KL Tower Ramadhan buffet.
For Malaysians, the month of Ramadhan is also the best time to savour authentic traditional Malay dishes at numerous buffets offered by restaurants and hotels. Offering something that many other establishments cannot compete with, Menara Kuala Lumpur or KL Tower is definitely a cut above the rest with a commanding view of the sprawling city. For 2016, their Ramadhan buffet is sure to attract many diners because the dishes are lovingly prepared by Malaysia’s very own celebrity Dato Chef Ismail. Known to most for the lip-smacking dishes he prepared at his famous 14-year old restaurant Rebung in Bangsar, Chef Ismail brings his authentic touch to Menara KL’s Ramadhan buffet.
I was lucky enough to get the chance to have a short chat with Dato Chef Ismail at the media preview. It was clear that his passion and enthusiasm for authentic traditional Malay cuisine has not abated one bit since he first opened Rebung many years ago. Do you know that he was appointed as one of the Tourism Advisors for Malaysia programme? He has travelled the world promoting Malaysian food and I do not see him stopping anytime soon in his pursuit of exploring many other ways to do so.
Opt for the healthier ‘nasi ulam’ which is rice that is lavishly added with a variety of herbs and local salads.
Quality not quantity is the key to a good buffet offering.
My favourite, ‘siput sedut’ which is river snails in spicy coconut gravy. Oh yes…catch ’em sucking snails!
His love for cooking began in his early years in the small town of Rembau, Neegri Sembilan. He was introduced to the joy of creating authentic dishes by his own grandmother. He strongly believes in using the freshest of ingredients and using herbs and spices to create signature dishes that has made him a household name. And that quality is more important than quality. I strongly adhere to that as well especially when it comes to the extravagance of buffet offerings. I am glad to hear him said that for Menara KL’s Ramadhan buffet, the number of dishes may not be as many as other places but the quality and of course, the authenticity is assured. Dato Chef Ismail has included in the menu some of his own personal favourites such as ‘siput sedut’, ‘daging salai masak lemak’, and ‘serawa durian’. As it turns out, they were mine too!
Simple jelly to end a lovely dinner.
