Today (January 22nd) marks the 29th year since the 1987 #MendiolaMassacre. It was a peaceful march of peasant farmers seeking genuine land reform that turned bloody and violent when the government forces opened fire at the marchers without warning. 13 farmers were killed on the spot, 39 others with critical gunshot wounds, and dozens more injured. This bloodbath happened under President Cory Aquino's watch barely 11 months after the "People Power Revolution" toppled the Marcos Dictatorship. 29 years on, the families are still waiting for justice and genuine land reform in the #Philippines remains unattainable. #NeverForget #KnowHistoryKnowSelf #NoHistoryNoSelf #NoJusticeNoPeace [Photograph by Ramon Acasio] (at Mendiola Street)
