Pray for California
California doesn’t feel real right now. It’s cold and dark but the sky is burning, the smell of fire lingers in the fog and the early morning dew. The sun changes from pink to orange to red until it sets seemingly too early in the day. The nights are starless from all the smoke. People everywhere have lost everything, families on the television ask us to help find their loved ones, but no one has time to slow down and morn the destruction yet.
The worst part? This isn’t new. This all feels familiar and unending. California has been burning for a long time. Those left untouched feel like they’re waiting their turn. Those already burned are being set aflame again but damn it we’re tired. We’re worn. We want to rest, we want a break from this unending nightmare.
