Day 1 of @ainurweek: Varda
Varda placing the constellation Menelmacar in the sky
My friend and I got into a conversation about stars and astronomy in the Legendarium. I came across this curious material that states that Tolkien chose to ignore precession in his work. Fascinating stuff, does anyone know more about that?
#lotro constellations #lotrofamily valacirca (Q. Sickle of the Valar) - known to us as Ursa Major. remmirath (Netted Stars) - known to us as the Pleiades menelmacar (Q. Heaven-Swordsman) - known to us as Orion. Valacirca and Menelmacar are both Quenya words rather than Sindarin. Information from Tolkien Gateway.
