feministy feels
A guy and I were arguing about a women's group, and he claimed he supported it's fight, but would not join because the name included the word "women."
I proceeded to characteristically explode with no sense of organization or intelligent argument. After some peace and best friends, I was able to respond thusly: Just because our mission is to help WOMEN does not mean that MEN can't help. No one group can accomplish all the social, political, and economic change they wish to accomplish without HELP. Our mission is to empower the female population of our college. But we cannot do that without the help of women from all cultures, ethnicities, backgrounds etc., and we most definitely cannot do so without the help of men, or LGBT community members, or everyone else. We live in a highly social society, and change is not something one group of people can accomplish. We all have to work together. To quote the crappiest of all musicals, "We're all in this together!" Because what affects us negatively, also affects you. Men need feminism because they don't need to be told to "man up," because being called a girl shouldn't be an insult, because wearing pink shouldn't have stigma, because women are sexual creatures too, because men deserve a fair and true competition with all peoples.
