“Wait, wait.” Sensei Garmadon said, bewildered. “What do you mean you think you were flirting with my brother?”
“Well, I didn’t plan on it, but it seems like everyone saw it except for me.” Misako replied, lowering her head. “Even Wu. I understand if you're angry.”
“I’m not angry.” Sensei Garmadon gently said as he took her hands in his. “I just need you to look me in the eyes and tell me that…”
“I don’t feel anything for Wu.” Misako looked him straight in the eyes. “That’s the only thing I’m sure of.”
“Alright.” Sensei Garmadon said with a sense of relief, gazing into her lovely eyes.'Lloyd has your eyes…'
“Garm?” Misako asked, her brow furrowed with concern. Sensei Garmadon smiled at her.
“What is it?” Misako was still confused.
“I’m just so happy that we’re here.” Sensei Garmadon said, kissing her hand. “You know Wu deserves you more…”
“Don’t even start with that.I love you and for other things, I don't care.” Misako said, planting a kiss on his cheek.
~~~~~~
“I need to know.” Sensei Garmadon looked Wu straight in the eyes.
“It’s not Misako’s fault; she…”Wu began, but Sensei Garmadon sighed.
“I don't want to check up on Misako, I believe her completly.“
“Then why did you come?” Wu asked, confusion etched on his face.
“I need to know if you feel anything for her.” Sensei Garmadon barely managed to utter.
“I…” Wu tried to speak but could not find the words. “I don’t want to…”
“You don’t have to feel guilty.” Sensei Garmadon said, though he had a bitter taste in his mouth. “I just need to know, do you… love her all this time, even after all these years?”
“Do you love her?” Wu shot back, his gaze piercing, causing Sensei Garmadon to shiver.
“Of course.” He replied with certainty. “She and Lloyd are my whole world.”
“Then make them happy.” Wu continued to stare at him. “Because I love them both endlessly, all this time. Lloyd is my nephew… and Misako…”
“I’m doing my best.” Sensei Garmadon said, breaking eye contact with Wu.
“Good night, brother.”
“Good night to you too, Garmadon.” Wu bid farewell, and both pretended that nothing had happened.
Sensei Garmadon stepped outside for some air and sighed. He wasn’t afraid that Misako felt anything for Wu, and that brought him relief.
The only thing that troubled him was Wu’s feelings, even though he didn’t know why. Still, he couldn’t blame him for loving Misako. He alone knew it.
He knew he had loved her for a long time, since that letter… All he could do was be a good husband and father. Just as Wu had said…~~~~~~
“Misako.” Wu gently knocked on the door, and Misako opened it. “I’m sorry about Garmadon…”
“I’m sorry too.” Misako said, sitting down. Her eyes were as red as rubies. “If only things could have been different…”
“Do you think I could have gone instead of him?” Wu asked.
Her gaze was enough. Despite knowing who wrote the letter, Misako still held firm to her choice.
Garmadon.
“Does fate hate us so much?” Misako asked angrily. “Garmadon, he…”
“I can’t believe he’s gone.” Wu said quietly. “Even though I got very angry…”
“So did I.” Misako sighed.
“I think we didn’t get angry for the same reasons.”
“I got angry because that letter meant something to me, because he hadn’t reached out before that.” Misako sighed. “And that wasn’t fair to you, even if it was anyone else in question. He could have at least told me…”
“He was afraid he would lose you.” Wu found himself defending his brother unexpectedly.
“How ironic!” Misako laughed without a trace of joy. “And I lost him for the second time… Oh, my poor Lloyd…”
“He was afraid you would choose me if you received the letter…” Wu said, wanting to know the answer. That Garmadon didn’t…
“What nonsense!” Misako shook her head. “He was really creative when it came to conjuring up baseless worries…”
“And now he’s gone.” Wu said sadly.
“Yes…” Misako said, burying her head in her hands. “Forever…” she whispered softly, and once again burst into tears.
~~~~~~
As the years went by, Wu lost hope that he and Misako were destined to be together. They had grown much closer than before, even when it included physical contact, such as occasional hugs.
But Misako made it clear that she cared for Garmadon, and from his demeanor, Wu could read that she felt nothing for him. Wu settled for friendship and was happy to watch over her.
When Garmadon returned and indicated to Misako that he was no longer the same man, Wu hoped he had a chance.
However, even that hope was dashed. Wu came to terms with the fact that he would always be near his love while remaining forever distant.
He learned to be satisfied with seeing her happy alongside Lloyd and the ninjas, his protégés.
