Menya Mappen | Town Hall
Last night I went to Menya Mappen for the 2nd time this week. I just couldn't get the delicious taste of Ontama Bukkake off my mind and after a very painful day at work it was a well deserved reward.
Menya Mappen is unlike other Sydney noodle bars, rather it reminds me more of an American canteen as you stand in line with your tray selecting from the different tempura options. The "self-serve" gimmick makes the whole experience fun as its up to you to choose what you like and customise your dish. Beware, I found on both occasions my rumbling tummy informed my brain that it needed far more food then I could consume!
With my tray loaded up with Ontama Bukkake Udon, Seaweed topping, Prawn Tempura, Sweet Potato Tempura and a Sparking Fuji Apple soda (for only $11!) it was time to squish around the other patrons and take a deep breath in preparation for what seemed like hours, but really was a few minutes, of delicious and intense eating. The crispness of tempura and the lemon zing over the udon still linger in my memory and continue to tempt me to change this evenings plans, but I must resist and save this cheap feed for next weeks adventures.
Udon fanatic or not, I would recommend this in understated eatery in a heart beat. Let me know when you want to go and I'll meet you there!
Ps. The Sparking Fuji Apple is absolutely to-die-for!
