Hold up catfishing? Story time? 😂
Ohhh boy, grab a snack! Okay so once upon a time (2015 roughly) @dndogs (Darcie) and I met on what USED TO BE a great social chatting app called Meowchat (read: it’s no longer even the same app format, it’s now a wannabe tinder swipe situation. v sad). The two of us made friends with this other girl named Alina and we had a group chat together. The three of us legit talked every day, it was really fun. We all had lots in common and all had the same sense of humour. We literally shared everything about our daily lives with each other for months. There were a few other people that we also all respectively chatted with so it was like a little community without all being in the same group chat (I think the algorithm was more likely to match you with people that your friends were also talking to). Anyway, one day, this guy that we all talked to messages Darcie and I to tell us he found an Instagram account with all of Alina’s pictures, except her name isn’t Alina and everything Alina had told us was very clearly proven to be lies based on all the content on this very legit Instagram account. Darcie and I tried to approach her calmly about it but in all of 30 seconds, Alina disappears. Her account was gone, we couldn’t chat anymore, it was like she never existed. I guess word got out and whoever it actually was panicked and left or someone decided to report the account (reported accounts got taken down instantly). Darcie and I still don’t know who Alina was. It turns out everything they told us about themselves were all elaborate stories based on pre-existing photos from this other girl’s instagram account. Everything seems to have been fabricated so there was no way to track down who it actually could have been. Alina used to have separate convos with Darcie about how much she was in love with me, so in a few instances where I’ve had particularly obsessed anons on Tumblr, we’ve wondered if it could be the same person but it always leads to dead ends and radio silence. There was also one instance where someone stole a bunch of my photos and made a fake Instagram account and we thought that might be something, but someone messaged me to let me know and it turns out it was one of their friends messing with them. The account was reported and deleted. Alina will forever be a mystery and who they actually are I doubt will ever really be known. Darcie and I skyped after it all went down and realized she was never able to skype when we proposed, a lot of it started to make sense. Then when I was flying out west in the spring of 2016, I had a 3-hour layover in her city so she came to meet me at the airport for lunch and we got to hang out and she brought me this amazing painting she made of my dog. We talk regularly and I wish we could actually hang out more but I really do think that whole roller coaster that brought us together was really something special haha. IN CONCLUSION: RIP to the meowchat we once loved / the truth might be out there, but its name isn’t Alina.
